Foam steps for large labrador

Looking for some recommendations. My lab (32kg, aged 12) is struggling to get in and out of car. I bought a dog ladder and he won't go near it, so I'm thinking of trying some foam steps. I've seen several on Amazon, but some of the reviews say they're only suitable for cats/small dogs. I wonder if anyone has any recommendations for some that are strong enough for my boy. Don't mind spending a bit more to make sure they work for him.

Have used the pet gear steps before, they were ok. Hard plastic with carpeted steps. Quite bulky and take up a fair bit of room in the car. Using a harness was helpful instead of just a dog collar

Thank you @StrongTea, my car is quite small so I do need to factor in size, but I'll take a look at those ones.

foam doesnt sound very stong! If he is struggling amd arthritic then steps might not be the best thing, does he normally manage steps ok?
how about a ramp? you can get him used to it flat on the ground first and then gradually raise it, there are lots out there to choose between and some of them fold away neatly.

Thank you @YouveCatToBeKittenMe, I did consider a ramp, but lots of reviews said they had collapsed and injured larger dogs which put me off. I fashioned a staircase out of sofa cushions at the weekend and he used them beautifully which is why I think foam steps are the way to go. Obviously I can't carry my sofa cushions round with me Smile

Sofa cushions are better as the fabric covers help keep the shape. I live next to a vets, so I see all kinds of steps/ramps etc. I'd look at a ramp that slides into itself (rather than folding). Given the size of some of these dogs, 32kg is nothing!

best of luck!

We used this sliding ramp (no chance of collapse) for years with multiple Labradors (up to 40+kgs). Jo chance of it collapsing. Very sturdy and it slides to a small enough size to fit in the back of the car if you’re needing it when out.

My lab hated a ramp. We have these- took a little bit of getting used to but no no problem, and the beauty of them is that they fold up very small

Inner Wolf do some aluminium ones that fold to the size of a briefcase. I have seen a Lab using them. The foam ones will give too much. You need rigid ones.
