What is this horrific thing that my dog or cat has pooped out or vomited up !

I woke up this morning to find a gross brown mass on the floor. I thought it was dog poo at first but it isn't. I can see what looks like a blood vessel in it. I have two pedigree cats one of whom has a delicate tummy vomits quite frequently. I also have a small dog. There was a small stain of bright red blood next to it. I thought that was where it had landed and them one of the pets moved it. All 3 pets seem fine, have no traces of blood on them and are all eating and moving normally. What could this be?

Yikes. Im seeing quite a lot of horrible furballs in the house recently

She hasnt really done this before, but its accompanied by a lot of horrible liquid too.

All over the ironing board this morning. Thanks cat.

It looks like intestines. Could it be fat worms?

NewDogOwner · 13/08/2023 21:12

I thought it looked like intestines. They are inside cats so they can't have brought anything in.

It looks like on mass rather then separate worms. And it didn't move. Thank God!

It looks segmented. Like a tapeworm. But I have never seen one that colour.

We have had the odd field mouse but the bigger cat has only ever killed one not devoured parts of it. It's way to big to be mouse insides.

It definitely looks like rat or mouse intestines. There is apparently an organ cats don’t like (might be the liver?) and that’s why they often leave some intestines, not sure how true that is. I unfortunately find mouse halves in the morning sometimes but I’ve never known mine to eat around the intestines like this looks to be. Have you had a look around for a front or back half? 🙈

Really? It definitely looks intestine-y. I was worried it was the pet's insides that had come out. It was about 3 inches or so. It would need to be a pretty big mouse. I will look for other parts.

I don’t think a cat or dog would vomit or poop out their intestines and seem fine afterwards so I don’t think it’s that. Maybe a vet will comment and say for certain that isn’t a giant worm but I’m pretty sure it’s the insides of an unfortunate snack

Cloudsandrainnotsunandsand · 13/08/2023 22:08

Bloody hell op is your dcat called Sigourney?

cloudchaos · 13/08/2023 22:10

Yes I think it's the remains of a rat/mouse. I don't think it's been vomited up.

Didntmeanto6 · 13/08/2023 22:13

The insides if a rabbit was my first thought?

rowbotham · 13/08/2023 22:29

It's def intestines , mouse or rat
Not vomited but rest been eaten
I have lots of experience 🤣
You must have a mouse issue and cats are being helpful

Kat19899 · 14/08/2023 09:17

Just re-read and seen yours are indoor cats. Do you have a garden where the dog could have found something dead in a bush? Or have you seen anything mysteriously chewed or found any small black things indoors (particularly in kitchen cupboards?)
I’m invested in this now 😆

NewDogOwner · 14/08/2023 16:54

This so helpful. I was worried that one of the cats had passed some of their insides! We have had a few field mice which the cat has killed but I've never seen him eat any. Just worried about the size of the remains which suggests quite a big creature.

The dog has been barking at the garden at night a few times. There could be some evil rat or very fat mouse trying to get in. The dog is very small and always comes straight to me when he comes in - he doesn't like to play out in the garden on his own - so it's unlikely that the dog brought it in.

Will check cupboards for mouse poop.

It could be left over bits from a garden kill that your dog snaffled then vommed up possibly, mu dogs have vommed up similar.

Sonolanona · 21/08/2023 00:46

My Mum used to call those parts 'pipes and eyeballs' Grin
It will have been one of the cats , leaving the less nice parts of the mouse they have eaten (and probably puked)

I grew up with a mouser and we found a lot if parts that looked JUST like that....
