Rehomed a dog in 2018

According to the company dog is chipped too me,still.

In what circumstances do you think the person who took the dog wouldn't change chip details.
It would be the first thing i wouldve done.

There are different chip companies aren't there?

Maybe the old one couldn't be read so a new chip put in, with a different register company?

Daisy523 · 11/08/2023 17:04

Did they receive the correct paperwork?

Blueberrymuffin80 · 11/08/2023 17:07

So he'd have two chips 🤣 cant see that but OK.
Cool, I get him back if he gets lost and they scan my chip instead of hers 🤣

She received the same documents as me when I had the dog.

There’s a few reasons it could be:

  1. Never got around to it/Forgot
  2. Resold/Rehomed the dog
  3. Couldn’t be arsed to change it

The list goes on and on. Did you keep any info belong to them? Names, phone numbers, etc?

This is a surprisingly common situation, and the microchip being out of date seems to be a common theme on the strays that crop up in the local dogs home and are publicised on Facebook.

Are you still in touch with the new owner, and do they definitely still have the dog?

I privately rehomed ddog (not the first time he'd been passed around) and his last owner assumed his chip would have been changed by the owner before that. It turned out to be registered to a fourth party...

The chip definitely wasnt out of date.

She changed her number and i didn't even get her full name she told me she lived in Coventry which may of been a lie.

It makes me think she did pass him on but surely she would of given those details on or new owners wouldve got in touch with the chip company.

I think it's a bit odd.

Lots of people just don't bother changing the chip details. It's not necessarily anything malicious, just laziness.

HiHoHiHoltsOffToWorkWeGo · 11/08/2023 19:41

The chip definitely wasnt out of date.

If the details stored on the chip are of the old owner, it is, by definition, out of date.

She changed her number and i didn't even get her full name she told me she lived in Coventry which may of been a lie.

Did you do any vetting of this woman whatsoever?!

Didn't say it was.

No the chip wasnt out of date they just change the details so no it was DEFINITELY not out of date.

Sorry are you mistake in thinking i wanted advice on how to home a dog. As clearly stated I'm asking about the chip.

Thank you for your helpful input.

How do you know she hasn't updated it, unless he's scanned and you're notified you wouldn't know.
Not that it sounds as if you care , giving your dog to some random, hopefully she'd kept him and he's safe.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 11/08/2023 21:19

Honestly don't know. I checked our DD's chip was in our name on the first day.

This thread is so depressing.

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 11/08/2023 22:49

It may be that the new owner didn't do the transfer of details because of the cost?
We had an email from the pet chip company the other week asking if our dog's details were still the same, which was good as it's 9 years since we got her chipped and could well have moved house in that time. Guessing you got a similar email/correspondence.
