Is there a charity that I can donate our beloved dog’s prescription meds?

Just that really. She was on a ton of meds for the last 17 months since her heart disease diagnosis. Hundreds of ££. She was a rescue and surely there is a pet charity that could make use of them now.
Written scripts were from the vet but we bought the meds online from a pet pharmacy to help with the costs.
Thank you all.

@Imnotmadaboutit thank you so much ❤️

So some of the boxes are open but with sealed blister packs inside. Other meds are plastic bottles that are sealed with “neck” rings or plastic overlay that would need opening. So I guess that would be ok?

Would the blister packs be acceptable? X

I really don’t know tbh, I just googled and they came up. If you Google rescue centres in your area you could contact them directly to see if they need them maybe? Or would the vet agree to pass them on to an owner who’s dog needs the same medication but who are struggling with bills?

It all sounds a lot of work though I know, not what you want to do when you are upset enough.

I could contact her original rescue place I guess, but they are small and not sure if they could cope with the red tape so to speak with the prescription meds.

thanks @Imnotmadaboutit

No charity would take my dogs prescription medication last year when I lost my dog. I took it back to the vet to be disposed of.

QueenBitch666 · 09/08/2023 23:45

I'd advertise them free on a local FB page if you have one

QueenBitch666 · 09/08/2023 23:47

My elderly cat is on hyperthyroid meds and hypertension meds. If someone offered them free to me I'd be incredibly grateful ( I have 6 rescue cats )

Munchyseeds2 · 11/08/2023 14:46

I took 6 months worth of thyroid medication to our local dog rescue
Still can't get over the fact that the vet dispensed so many when our dog was obviously not going to be around that long (or that DH just accepted and paid for them!)

Hi all and thanks for info/advice.

So I went onto website wvs.org as mentioned above and had to list all the meds/qty etc, they should be contacting me back to see if it’s a goer.

They weren’t physically dispensed from the vets (she was under our local vet and also a referral specialist vet hospital) but they wrote the scripts and were dispensed by an online pharmacy.

Not sure if I’m entirely comfortable just offering them on Facebook, a couple of the heart meds are extremely potent (even half a tablet has a huge effect on the kidneys) and without a vet double checking the dosage is correct….I dunno. Not that I wouldn’t trust the owner, I don’t mean that. Will see what the wvs say first.
