Dog gets upset by weather!

Hi everyone, we have a lovely dog but over the last year or so he’s started to get upset when the weather is bad, eg heavy rain, storms.
Storms are to be expected if there’s thunder and lightning but he’s often unsettled when it’s just raining. He won’t sleep at night when the rain is heavy and just paces round the house, or will scratch at DS’s bedroom door.
Does anyone’s dog act like this? Did you find a way to help them? TIA

It sounds like he wants company and/or reassurance.

Do you leave the radio on for him to help drown out the noise? Can he sleep in with you or DS so he's not left alone while he's frightened?

Our dog hates the wind. She is particularly worried by banging doors/windows - could it be the same for your dog? They are clever and may have worked out that rain precedes a storm thunder/lightening?

Our dog doesn't mind storms, just banging. She is a rescue so presume she has some bad history with slamming doors ☹️

Thanks @LBF2020 and @cinnamonfrenchtoast. Doggo does sleep with us but behaviour still what it is. I’m not annoyed by it, just trying to help him (Classic FM works for him!).

Could you try a fan or white noise machine maybe? It might just be enough to drown out the sound of the rain and allow him to settle.

Mine paces the house sniffing when it rains. It's really unsettling- he perches on the edge of the sofa, nose outstretched, tiptoed, and occasionally lurches as though he's about to fall.

We've tried all sorts- the tv will be on, he sleeps in with us, but still pacing and sniffing. I asked on here once before- I don't think we'd realised it was weather related back then- we called it 'hunting invisible mice'.
