Dreaded fleas

We recently had a cat in our house for a few weeks, unfortunately he clearly brought fleas in. Treated DDog with advantage as I usually do, 3 weeks later he's crawling!

Just had nexgard prescription from the vet which I'll administer today. Have sprayed the house with 5 tins of Indorex over the last 2 weeks( small house, probably overkill..) and washed everything that can be washed on 90°. I'm hoovering constantly! Poor DDog has been isolated in the kitchen (still getting plenty of attention and he's a lazy boy so is happy in his bed).

I'm pulling my hair out! Please tell me this will work. We've never had fleas before so assumed the advantage was working. None of the human residents have been bitten so assuming the Indorex has done its job in the house. I don't really know what I'm asking, maybe if there's anything else I can be doing?

We had a massive infestation a few years ago. It was awful. We treat but the vet treatment failed for whatever reason.

It took about 12 weeks to get under control. Indorex (don't forget vehicles) and also a seresto collar for the dog (who was suffering) and good spot on for the two cats and daily hoovering got it under control. It's worth combing the dog twice a day and drowning the fleas. We did this on the cats but the seresto collar killed them within minutes on the dog.

A seresto collar is well worth a go.

Brilliant thank you! I'll try one of those too. I'm assuming I can use that alongside the nexgard?
I've sprayed and hoovered the vehicles too thankfully (I was tempted to spray the humans too but thought better of it haha).
I thought we'd cracked it so stopped combing but will definitely be starting again for another month or so. He absolutely hates it, poor little dog.
Thank you

You can get them from the vets so check with them but it's different chemicals so you should be able to. Worth asking though.

A lot of people where we live use them anyway as they are far more effective than spot on and we are in a tick heavy area.

Thank you! Luckily not many ticks here (weirdly enough as quite rural!) but happy if it stops the fleas! Will give the vet a ring tomorrow Smile

Little update.
So Ddog has been treated with nexgard. No fleas on him now yay!
However, DS is still getting bitten and I found a flea in his room yesterday evening Envy I've treated the whole house with Indorex so why the hell is there still fleas! I'm now letting the dog roam the house so that (fingers crossed) and stray fleas jump on him and die. It's only in DS's bedroom that anyones being bitten. What the hell is going on! I've bleached everything, washed everything and resprayed everything today. I really hope this gets on top of it. I could cry!

My dog got fleas a couple of years ago despite regularly treating with frontline. My whole house needed treated and I just couldn't get rid. Ended up at the vet and he now takes Nexgard. Seemed to be the only thing that got rid of them. That, and constant hoovering of everything and spraying with flea spray!

gooseygoosey12345 · 07/08/2023 10:29

@anotherdisaster how long after the nexgard and constant hoovering would you say it cleared? He had the tablet last week and I've hoovered everywhere, bleached the floors and sprayed again. It's such a nightmare

It wasn’t long at all. Just keep hoovering every day for a few more days. It’s the worst, I know!!

Brilliant thank you. That gives me hope! I've literally seen one flea in the house so hopefully it's not a huge problem
