Anallergenic Food - Any Experince?

The vet has recommended putting my dog on an anallergenic diet for unexplained stomach trouble.

Has anyone had experience of putting a sensitive stomach dog on this food?

Thanks

Is it the Royal Canin one? What things have you tried so far?

Our DDog had skin problems when she came to us and we were advised by the vet to try Tinned Chappie and it worked. My DSis' DDog had pancreatitis and was advised the same and it cleared up.

If it does have to be a food specifically for sensitive stomachs I think the Pooch and Mutt one might score better nutritionally but not sure if it's cheaper.

Ours had ongoing stomach issues for ages, the vets have done all the non-intrusive tests they can and not found anything wrong. We assume it’s an allergy but he started to lose lots of weight so needed something to get some weight back on. He’s been on royal canin anallergenic for about 8 months and he’s put on weight and he eats it. He’s really fussy too.

He still has stomach issues when he eats other things, if he steals it or if someone doesn’t listen and gives him a treat.

This sounds just like my dog.

She's always been a bit sensitive but a few weeks ago she started being sick for no reason. We've had all the possible tests through the non-specialist vets and all have come back clear (aside from a slight liver issue which is unrelated).

So it's looking like a diet/allergy issue. We're going to diet trial before we head to the internal medicine specialists.

Its brilliant to hear Royal Canin has worked for your dog 😊

Yep, Royal Canin - recommended by the vet.
The Pooch&Mutt is hypoallergenic, rather than anallergenic.

We haven't tried any new diets yet. The problem only really started a few weeks ago. Since then we've fed her on boiled chicken only which is the only thing she's managing to keep down.

Now we've ruled out all kinds of other causes, we're ready to start a diet trial.

My dog is sensitive to chicken and Royal Canin made things worse. Since he has been on a fish-based food he's been fine.

That's interesting, thank you. I'm glad your dogs better now and you found something that works.

Mine seems to only tolerate chicken ATM (though she chucked up again last might having eaten only chicken for the last week-ish)

I tried some boiled white fish the other day and she brought it straight back up.

My bitch had digestive problems - vomiting after meals in particular. A scan indicated a very inflamed stomach lining, which was diagnosed as a food intolerance.
The vet recommended Hills ZD , which is made with hydrolysed proteins. Since then we have alternated with Royal Canin Hypoallergenic and I have in the past mistakenly used the Anallergenic with no side effects.
The vet thought she might become more tolerant with age, it that has not happened. She has a very restricted diet, but she is well and happy.

I'm so glad your girl is well and happy. That's all I want for mine too. I'm not fussed if she has a very restricted diet or short walks or weird feeding times. I just want her to be well

My dog had an endoscopy last week which ruled out any issues in her stomach, so we know it's not inflammation.

Great to hear your experienced with RC, thank you

Hi everyone,

I don't know if anyone cares. But I wanted to update and let you know that my dog's been on RC anallergenic stuff for about a week now and she absolutely loves it.

We've had no vomit for over a week now and she's back to her old self.

I was really dreading changing her diet to the anallergenic food but you all put my mind at rest. I'm so glad it's paid off. Thank you!
