Would you hire a small dog field

My nearest dog field (enclosed, you hire by the hour) is a good 30 min drive away.

I'm thinking of fencing some of my land to make a secure enclosure approx 0.5 acres in size. I'd get the relevant insurance and permissions etc, all above board. No neighbours to worry about.

The other fields 30 mins away charge £12 an hour for 5 acres.

Would you 1) hire 0.5 acres for your dog 2) pay £5 an hour?

did you go for it ? @BetterCallSaull

Yes I would. I have a terrified parsons terrier who reacts to dogs after being attacked. It would have to be a field that she couldn’t get out of !
She has to stay on the lead but has so much energy and loves her Zoomies .

Yes. I hired a field last week. £15 for 45 mins. It had toys and water bowls and obstacle course on it. My dogs loved it.

Personally no. We use a dog field fairly regularly but they are 2 acres each (several to choose from) and that is a good size to walk around a few times, throw a ball etc. We hired another nearby that was wooded but was under an acre and honestly was really boring as it was so small we had to walk round loads of times. The dogs got bored too.

I think you'd definately have a target market for it. Maybe dogs who can't be let off lead at all in public?
I have a boisterous 9 month old lab who needs bare minimum 30 min daily free run off lead every day but he can't yet be fully trusted off lead around people and dogs. He gallops joyously towards them, jumps up on people, plays too boisterously with dogs and loses re-call. In short, he's a good natured but over excited liabillity for toddlers, tiny dogs, infirm people, people who dislike dogs etc. I simply can't trust him to run free around general public. (I do trust he's not aggressive. I dont trust him not to get us into trouble). While I'm training him to be well behaved around everyone (which I hope will take no longer than a year) I'd definately be interested in hiring a field once or twice a week where he can run and I can relax. But... I'd be very quickly put off re-hiring if any previous hirers hadn't "picked up" after their dogs (my dog, if bored, very occassionally still tries to consume this). Realistically, I'd only drive 5-10 minutes from where I live to get there on any regular basis. It would need to be completely secure. I'd rather pay cash upfront for the month (e.g. 4-8 hires a month m) than trust my credit card details to an unknown website (sorry!). I get so bored going to the same places every week. I'd always be wrestling with my thoughts that there are countless free places to go (if I only picked quiet times and / or kept him temporarily kept him on lead and / or trained him better). So, realistically, at best, I'd likely be a fairly short term (up to a year), relatively infrequent, (relatively high maintenance?), fairly sporadic 1-2 x a week customer. I hope that helps.
I may not be your target market so I would encourage you to try it for a while and see. If it doesn't work out, there's likely to be plenty other uses people would hire your land for. (I'd love a local dog friendly allotment!) I suppose it depends on your local area and local "target market". Good luck anyway. If you think it could work, I hope you go for it!
