Fleas fleas fleas

My dog is 13, never really had fleas to my knowledge. Always put flea spot on in summer, don't really bother during winter.

Anyway I also have a kitten. Kitten went in cattery and came back with fleas. The kitten is white short hair and I use a flea comb, kitty has been treated and fleas seem to be gone. However my dog can't get rid of the fleas. He's a long haired dog, used frontline which I thought was best but it didn't appear to do anything. A week later used a different brand to no avail. Didn't get any good reviews for itch when looking online.
I feel like he's suffering. Wondering if anyone can recommend a good flea treatment. Was thinking about taking him to vets and maybe getting a flea tablet? What about a spray?

Get the spray, also the main issue is larvae and the eggs will be in your house. You need to flea bomb and keep vacuuming. It took us two weeks to be fully rid from long haired dogs - stupid foxes!

Ok can you recommend a spray? Yes I will do that, luckily no carpets in the house, but I know they probably get on the bed and sofa etc

Indorex is your friend for treating the house.

Go to the vets. I have found some of the over the counter stuff made my animals feel really poorly. When our cats got fleas, the vet gave them a long lasting injection which also acted as a flea killer in the house. Basically you send them into any room where you think you might have a flea infestation, fleas jump on cat/ dog and die! That's my non medical explanation. Ours had a jab lasting I think 6 months. Fleas have never returned. I didn't want to use any of the flea bomb stuff you can buy as DS has asthma and that stuff sounded highly toxic!

It is always the cat that brings the fleas in to our house. I comb all the animals with a flea comb every day. It really does help and they all enjoy the attention.
I have a jug of water and drop the fleas in it when I get them on the comb.

Indorex spray is your friend. It really works. Keeping the fleas at bay in Summer is never ending although today we have none.

You need to use prescription strength flea stuff on the cat and dog as the OTC stuff is a waste of money .

Lonecatwithkitten · 06/07/2023 13:04

Frontline and itch are both fipronil so exactly the same stuff.

HighEndGrifters · 06/07/2023 13:12

Do not buy Indorex from your vet, it is a rip off, it is cheaper on eBay.

Carsarelife · 06/07/2023 23:23

@ilovesushi ok thanks. I'll try and take him to the vets I think. He's constantly biting himself. Made one of his back legs sore. Never done this before. I feel he needs more help than a flea spray

Flea combing the cats every single day is the only thing that works in this house, otherwise every flea jumps onto my dog and makes her life a misery (not so easy as one cat is an agressive bugger)

Carsarelife · 07/07/2023 06:47

@YourTruthorMine

Yes I comb the kitten each day. Find one or two fleas or none. He is plain white so they are very easy to see.

You can get it at Pets at Home and if they run out which they do... the Johnson's one is good also.

Don't put any more spot on treatments on until you see a vet. Even if it hasn't worked your dog has still had a full dose of that medication.
I took two of my cats to the vet last month with itching/biting. One had a steroid injection and the other was given a different flea treatment with strict instructions not to put anything else on them for a month.
