Looking for campsite near to Dog-friendly beaches

Hi moms, this is our very first camping trip, and probably only one this summer. We have bought all the camping equipment, and camped in the backyard with our 1 year old Goldendoodle (very energetic), he was quite settled in the tent and we have slept here for 2 nights, he liked it.

I am looking for a campsite that's near the beach, so we can take our dog to walk in the beach and stay there for longer in the evenings. I looked up places like Cornwall and Wales. Either I find a good campsite with beach, but dogs are not allowed there; and a dog friendly beach, but the campsites are far away. We are looking for 2nd week in July, most of the beaches restrict dogs from 1st July. Any recommendations for such places in England/Wales please? Thank you for reading.

Watching with interest!

We’ve stayed at Cambrian coast caravan park in wales, dog friendly and dogs allowed in the on-site restaurant too. They’d also got a little kids park and nice indoor pool, which was really nice for our kids to use.
borth beach is just opposite which allows dogs, think there’s parts where they’re not meant to be but we didn’t come across these.
aberdovy estuary was just down the road to and that allows dogs.
we only stayed a couple of nights so not sure how much there is to do locally as it seems pretty quiet but could be worth a look.
think there’s one called Morfa bay (or just morfa?) that my partners stayed at and he said he saw lots of dogs there too

Channel View Caravan Park – Somerset Leisure

Stayed here without a dog last year. Really nice. Great walks to Brean Down Fort too. Aiming to go back later in the year with our dog.

North Norfolk is very dog friendly. Many of the beaches have year round sections available, for walking your best friend. Cafes and pubs are often dog friendly as well.

Watergate Bay Touring Park near Newquay in Cornwall - its a very short walk to the coast path and down to the beach or off in the other direction. Holywell Bay in Newquay used to have a dog walking field for those early morning or late night wees rather than a full blown walk. I think most beaches in North Cornwall are dog friendly just zoned.

This is a lovely campsite with excellent shower/toilet facilities. You have the dog friendly beaches at Brancaster, Holkham and Wells near by.

If you're willing to travel, pretty much every single campsite in Cumbria is dog-friendly and there are loads of stunning dog-friendly beaches.

I'd have a look at Silecroft Caravan Park, Port Haverigg Marina Village and Baystone Bank Farm.

The first two are right by the beach (as in, about 200m away) - the third is a bit of a drive away but has a cafe/shop on site and is only about a 10 minute drive from the beach.

Thank you all for the lovely suggestions. I checked them, some of them are not available, but most of them are. We will look into it. As this is my very first time camping, hope you don't mind me asking: How are the dishwashing facilities? I love cooking, and planning to cook some barbeque dishes (including smelly fishes), also feeling awkward to smell up the washing up area. Is it quite big, and can we expect other families doing the same??

We took our dogs to Sandy Hills Bay Holiday Park in Dumfries, Scotland. It was absolutely gorgeous and relaxing. Dogs were welcome on the beach. It’s literally on the beach.

Fairbourne beach is beautiful and dog friendly (beach separated into dog and non dog bits)

Aberdyfi nearby is also dog friendly in parts.

Both on the Cambrian coast in wales.

Pembrey country park campsite in Carmarthenshire is lovely and right next to Cefn Sidan beach which has a dog friendly area.

Do you have children? If not then two fabulous adult only sites Old Oaks at Glastonbury. Beach at Breen. Has an enormous dog walking field. Or abermarlais in Pe,brokeshire. Has dog walking field and stream for dog paddling. Beach at Pembury country park is a bit of a drive but fab.

Red Kite camping is supposed to be very good. Loads and loads of adult only sites in East Uk - Lincolnshire and Suffolk.

Yes @ComfortFoodCorner campsites do have washing up sinks. My lovely DH always takes the washing up and he’s always gone for ages. He loves a good natter and always manages to find someone to talk to. I have an excellent hour’s peace and quiet!

Haven caravan site in Hopton,Norfolk. Gorgeous empty sandy beaches or walks along the clifftop. Highly recommend

I have not been to this campsite, but I have lots of happy memories of taking our dog to Freshwater West beach.

Thank you all so much for the messages. It really helped me to look through the campsites recommended, reading the reviews and looking for dog friendly beaches nearby. We finally booked Caerfai Bay campsite park in Pembrokeshire... Looks promising. Our main concern was the toilets, they seem to have good number of toilets. It is a dive into a deep end for us. This is our first time camping, and first ever trip with our dog. So we are very nervous and also excited at the same time. Will look into tips for camping with dogs... Thanks all ever so much

Have a great time, we loved taking our dog to Pembrokeshire.

A future suggestion a bit of a longer drive, but amazing location glennbrittle on Skye.

Jenzine · 08/07/2023 12:32

Ty-Gwyn campsite is 5 minutes walk to Borth beach, there’s a quieter section (Borth Ynyslas, opposite side of the estuary from Aberdyfi) that’s just a short walk up the main beach, we take our Lurcher there because there’s a lot more space if you follow the estuary a little around the far side. There are ground nesting birds on Ynyslas beach in early summer, but they’re just about finished, maybe another week before they take off the tape, but it’s only at the very far end of the beach, up in the grassy dunes, so most people just keep to the other side until nesting season is over.

Just thought I will update regarding our recent camping experience. I looked into the facilities in campsites, and dog friendly beaches, but overlooked the weather. Besides we booked 3 weeks in advance so we couldn't really check the weather. We had lovely time the first night, but there was overnight yellow warning for storm and 40mph wind, so we decided to come back as nothing much we could do in the weather. On positive note, our puppy loved the long trip, playing in beach (his first time beach) he even started swimming automatically. Even in the campsite, I expected him to run around, but the Dog stake we bought was helpful to tie him up while we setup the tent. He was bit nervous anyway, so he was glued to us. The campsite had lovely facilities so we recommend it 100%. Sadly we couldn't do everything we planned to do.
Lesson learnt: 1) don't book campsite too much in advance. 2-3 days before the trip would be good in the weather as unpredictable as in this country. 2) We might not get 100% perfect facilities in campsite, so go with open mind. 3) Make sure the tent withstands the worst weather. We bought a summer tent, with 2 design faults it had water leaked through. We are trying camping again with Coleman Aspen tent, fingers crossed.
Again thank you so much for lovely suggestions, will be useful in booking our next trip.

Can't believe your rent leaked. We were in Wales at the beginning to f the month with several overnight storms and didn't leak once.

If you go again, don't forget wellies and raincoats. The DDog will love a walk on the beach in any weather! Wink

And come and join us over in the Camping section.
