How do I socialise my puppy if I can't put her on the floor to pee?

She's having her 2nd injection on Thursday and I know he's not covered till a week after that.

I've also read now (between 8 and 12 weeks) is the most important time to socialise her and get her used to many new situations.

But how do I do that if I cnat put her on the floor to pee whilst out?

I'm going to my mums today and want to take her but she has no garden only public grass outside her flat, so I assume I can't put her down there.

So what do people do?!

I'm not using mats at all. Breeder was but I just feel like it's teaching them to pee inside?!

So I've been taking her out every time she wakes up or drinks and had no accidents inside yet.

You carry her, or put her in a sling. At this age exposure to sights, sounds, smells I’d important. Put her in a sling and go and sit outside the supermarket, in a pub beer garden, walk near school at pick-up time etc. If you know any friendly, vaccinated dogs, go for a play date in their garden.

Carry her. Just a walk around the block to start with is fine

I wouldn’t routinely use puppy pads, but I’d use one outside at your mum’s for instance

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 17/06/2023 11:59

Carry her around.

Floralnomad · 17/06/2023 12:27

As above , get some pads for using outside in odd places .

Mrsjayy · 17/06/2023 12:32

Just carry her and just do short out and abouts. We never took puppy pads out with our pup just quick round the blocks and a trip to the pet shop is enough socialising.

Huga · 17/06/2023 12:40

No, I know I carry her.

I'm talking about when she needs a wee? Or a poo?

I have to put her on the ground then?

Ah OK. I'll grab some. Will be fun trying to keep her on the mat 😂

Short lead and puppy pads somewhere quiet and secluded if possible.

I would also line the sling with some in case she has an accident ☺️

If the grass is reasonably private (eg only accessed by the people who live in flats) I’d take the chance to put her on it. The main risks are high-traffic areas for dogs, like parks.

Huga · 17/06/2023 20:14

Well she refused to use the mat outside. She refused to use the mat inside.

She didn't have a pee the whole time we were out then had a huge wee when we got home 😂

Sometimes they are not comfy being in unfamiliar places/situations considering they pee every nanosecond at home you would think they would just pee .

Newpeep · 18/06/2023 10:47

She’s only going to need to be out and about for 30 minutes to an hour tops. It’s so much for them to take in. So she’ll be able to hold it that long as long as she’s been before she goes out.
