Any advice on keeping french bulldog

Hi,
A friend has to give up their 2 year old french bulldog due to moving to a flat that doesn't allow pets. He is gutted, but at least he can still see and visit the dog.

he isn't moving yet so i wanted to get some things to make sure i'm prepared for when we get the dog.
are there any things in particular that are a must for french bulldogs? My friend will obviously have stuff to give us, but i just want to buy a few things to make the dog feel at home
thanks in advance

If it came from a decent breeder it would be in the contract to return the dog if the owner couldn’t keep it. That’s worrying.
How well do you know this dog? Any existing medical or behaviour issues?
Remember that ANYTHING the dog has ever had treatment for at a vet will be excluded from any insurance.

That's not right. You have to declare all previous medical problems, and some pre-existing problems may be excluded, but not all. And you can shop around for specialist insurance, if there are exclusions. I had a dog with a rare genetic problem that caused all sorts of issues and he was insured - but it wasn't cheap!

I am more thinking of a dog being treated for a stomach upset. Then all further stomach related stuff won’t be covered. And it’s not just what you declare. They may ask for vet records.

Why is he being rehomed OP?

I think other people have covered most things. Basically, be on the lookout for food allergies and skin conditions, as well as breathing issues etc.

Main thing I’d add is to be really conscious of NOT walking them in the afternoons when it’s hot and sunny out. Same applies to any dog, but particularly frenchies. They overheat faster than you think.

I’m a dog walker and don’t walk any Frenchies for more than 15-20mins (if that) when it’s hot out. Basically I keep walks short if it’s around 16C+ and sunny, or if it’s over 20C regardless of cloud / sun.

That's not correct, though - you can be covered for pretty much any pre-existing condition - at a price!

And, even with a basic policy, having a common, self-limiting condition like a stomach upset would not usually exclude all other future stomach conditions - that would make having pet insurance pretty pointless. Petplan, as an example, say:

With Petplan pet insurance, we will provide coverage for an illness or disorder that is not permanent or likely to reoccur, after an incident-free period of time has passed.
