Torn paw pad

Hi all, I noticed my springer was limping after our walk this evening. He's got a tear on his paw pad but no sign of bleeding. I take it this is one for the vets tomorrow? Is there anything we can do overnight to help? He's really keen to lick it but I know he won't tolerate anything on the paw overnight and I'm worried about trying to tape a sock on for example incase he gets it off and ingests bits of fabric as he has form for that. Anyone dealt with this before?

We had very similar with our Springer and we let him lick it for the first night, then kept an eye on it and stopped him when it became excessive. You could bathe it with salty water, we bathed his paw with some antiseptic solution we had left over from a previous injury, and after a few days it's all mended and no visit to the vet thankfully. Good luck

Personally I wouldn't bother with the vet for such a minor injury. They're unlikely to do anything you can't do at home.

I would give it a good clean out, make sure there's no debris inside, bathe it in Hibiscrub or salt water a couple of times a day and leave it to heal naturally. I'd probably keep him off walks for a couple of days so it's not aggravated or anything though.

Not quite the same but my one tore his claw and we bathed it in salt water and put a sock on it so he couldn't lick it, then took him to our groomer who cut the claw and put some oinment on it, healed very well and didn't need to go to the vets. Try the salt water, it will clean it and my one doesn't like his paws being touched but a kids sock and some tape did it and he eventually accepted it.

Had very similar recently. Cleaned, sprayed with Leucillin then used Exmarid, kept a close eye on him (used a child's sock taped on with microspore initially) - repeated for first 48 hours. Crate/bed rest as much as possible. Then we used Bag Balm to massage very gently into his pads and he's healed brilliantly. Didn't go to the vet. We now apply Mushers or Bag Balm every now and then when he is dozing to keep his paws supple/protected. Hope pup is better soon!
