Dog has terrible wind for days

We have a spaniel. He never normally has a problem with wind but for the past few days he absolutely stinks.

I think since Monday.

I haven't seen him do a poo for the last few days as most of his walk so off lead and he tends to go in a bush or a ditch.

He's happy and full of energy, doesn't seem to be uncomfortable.

Should I be worried?

Not you point, where do you walk your dog that you don't feel the need to pick up his poop? Unless it's your land you need to pick it up.

We walk down a country lane, in a field and through the woods.

If he poos on the lane or in the field, then obviously I pick it up, but he has developed a habit of going in thick bushes and stinging nettles, so I can't get to it.

My old boy used to like to poo on nettles, gorse bushes, big old thistles, anything scratchy or spiky that he could back up on and every time I did my absolute best to pick his poop up, it's what you do as a responsible dog owner, you obviously aren't even looking to see if you could pick it up otherwise you'd know his current state of poop and if there is something wrong with it.

I said in my previous answer that I do pick it up if I can get to it.

But if he's in dense undergrowth or thigh length stingers then no, I can't see it or pick it up. I'm curious what your 'absolute best' stretched to.

The Forestry Commission recently ran a campaign encouraging 'stick and flick' into undergrowth rather than seal it in plastic poo bags.

I don't do this, and do use bags where I can.

But I'm sorry I asked for advice.

Next time I shall consult an actual vet.

I’ve just taken this off the Forestry England website
Keep our forests clean
Bag and bin your dog's waste. Any public or household waste bin can take bagged dog poo

If you're worried, keep him on an extending lead for a couple of days, or don't let him go for a walk and let him poo in the garden. Then you'll know if he's constipated or not.

Don't worry OP - in real life I don't know anyone who goes sticking their hands into nettles and brambles to pick up a poo Grin

As PP said if you're concerned I would keep him on a short lead for a bit until he's pooed and you can see what it's like - it could be that he's eaten something that disagrees with him or his food could have changed recipe without you realising?
