Keeping pup off patch of lawn

Cheap suggestions please, for keeping a 'diggy' labrador puppy (12 weeks old) off a 1m x 2m patch of lawn that's been seeded.

Constant supervision is tough due to having three children and a baby to look after too!

Berry net, chicken wire, support sticks with rope round them - will need a few levels, iyswim.
Just some sort of barrier around it that lets the light , rain etc in.
But he may just dig in another patch 🤷🏻‍♀️

Boy or girl? If the latter your lawn will be wrecked from their wee - unless you can keep the lawn out of bounds permanently.

We had a large lawn turfed to 'make it nice' for our first Labrador pup. What a waste of money!!

They do like to dig. If it's very hot one of ours digs a big hole in the soil and sits in it.

Prevention. Fence it off. Puppies are 99% management whilst waiting for them to grow up!

SummerCyclist98 · 04/06/2023 12:29

Yeah your need 18mth-2yrs supervision to combat digging and flower eating if our pup is anything to go by and yep the lawn has lovely yellow patches now due to wee….

Newpeep · 04/06/2023 12:38

I hate to say it but at 12 weeks it only gets much worse in terms of supervision and management!

DarkForces · 04/06/2023 12:39

I'd give it up as a lost cause to save your sanity

Makemyday99 · 04/06/2023 12:41

Train him to stay off of it rather than putting up a barrier. It’s very easy & quick..none of mine go on my lawn or anyone else’s unless specifically ‘invited’ with a particular word or gesture

Management - only allow puppy outside, supervised and on a lead. I wouldn't bother with a fence as it will just jump over it 😂

Saying though, we just re-seeded our lawn and didn't restrict our beagle from it - there was no damage.

AcclimDD · 04/06/2023 14:13

My lawn is full of dog holes, in a previous left he was mole, so no advice, but your pup is gorgeous 😍

Just popped back and saw the picture. He is gorgeous. 😍Had a feeling you were talking about a lab. Ours dug a very large hole in the lawn as we were trying to sell. We covered it with his paddling pool, then turfed it just before we closed the door for the last time, ( he was about 5 months at that point) He has ever done it since.

Yeah my pup only gets supervised time in garden , I realise you have got little ones , do you have a playpen for say the middle one and the youngest and oldest can help supervise in the garden ?

Thank you for your replies everyone - made me smile a lot! Fencing that area plus close watching seems to be the way to go. Or else I'll let him dig me out a nice pond. Then again, he'll probably use it as his personal swimming pool ...

My 4 year old Springer x Collie is a lawn digger - he seems to like making a dip to lie in.

Chilli powder sprinkled over the dug bit stops him but then after a day or so he just chooses to dig in a different place 🙄

I've given up & let him have one area - otherwise we would eventually have more bare patches than lawn 😬
