Insurance question

Hello wise people. I've just had my renewal through for my six year old beagle and it's gone up by £20 per month so shopping around.

I presume it's gone up because I put a claim in for some diagnostic scans and x-rays for a front leg lameness that came and went but there was no obvious cause. The X rays found nothing and the vet's opinion was it was probably the start of arthritic changes but not enough to see on the x-ray. He said to stop her jumping in and out of the car and give painkillers when it flares up.

So my question is, does this count as a pre existing condition? Her discharge notes do not mention arthritis at all, just 'conservative management'.

Yes that would need to be declared to any company and I would expect exclusions.

When I took out my life policy even as a puppy I had to declare 'anything' that I had consulted a vet about previously.

And to give an example. A friend had to declare consultation about diarrhoea in her puppy prior to taking out insurance and an exclusion was placed for any stomach problems.

Yes absolutely. You have to declare anything you’ve consulted a vet about at all.

Ok that makes sense, it was just odd wording as there is no "condition" as such but thank you!

The condition would be arthritis, so as I understand it a new insurance company wouldn't cover this in the future.
In fact, in my experience - if you switched, your insurance wouldn't pay out for any future lameness - regardless of if it is arthritis related or not 🙁
