Dog food recommendation for flaky skin

My dog is 1 and half years old and in the last 4 months or so has developed very flaky skin. It covers the house! She's not particularly itchy so not bothering her much - but you see it fly off her in a white cloud whenever she shakes.
We started off on raw as she was on that with the breeder. No issues with it but it worries me that we have young children and the dog would like to lick my DD on the face after eating and I'm worried about salmonella, e-coli, etc. (not to mention the cost of the food). We changed to Butternut box which is not much cheaper. All was fine for a while but now this skin condition.
The vet prescribed some special shampoo which doesn't do a lot.
We have added probiotics and salmon oil to her food but no improvement (been adding for about 3 months).

So any recommendations? We avoid grain and also chicken (as apparently her mother was allergic to chicken). Happy to try a dry food - dog is not fussy and eats everything!

TIA

Coconut oil massaged in before bed then washed off the next day or alternatively put it in their food.

I don't know TBH. I can only go by my own dog who's pretty consistent all year round. He's never had any hot spots or fungal infections or any other complications, just raging dandruff that necessitates daily brushing before he sheds it all over the house. I guess it stops the build up of flakes on the skin which can lead to soreness. Ironically, people often comment on his lovely coat because of the brushing (he's a golden retriever).

Apparently, one of the giveaways for Ichthyosis is that the dandruff is often dark coloured.

It may not be that though. I'm not a vet!

Good luck with getting on top of it.

Could be a bit yeasty? Is there a kinda cheesy/Doritos smell to DDog?
I'd bath in something containing Chlorhexidine and rinse with diluted apple cider vinegar with the mother in.

A pre and probiotic supplement may well help too.

I had problems with my goldendoodle too. I've recently switched to tail.com as they had a good offer.. The flakiness is much improved!! Also I'm doing less baths.

Anyone would like a month's free dog food? I just ordered my first box from tail.com and my puppy loves it. Also flaky skin has improved.

I got a referral code for a free box for friends if anyone want to give them a go.

Anything grain free, do you shampoo her a lot? Grooming will stimulate the natural oils. I've added salmon oil and I feed a teaspoon of coconut oil a day in food. For the dandruff girl who had several allergies I was massaging coconut oil and also castor oil into her coat. She's short coated and has a very thin coat so was easy and not too greasy. Something trying too many things can make the skin and coat dry. I didn't know this, read it recently. Brewers yeast is good for skin and coats, I can't feed it due to our breed but I've seen fab results with it. How long have you been feeding the salmon oil, that's a wee shame and so frustrating for you. I had out little allergic girl allergy tested and she had a positive to cows milk and the rest was environmental. Xx

This website is a good way to find out more about each brand of food:

Sorry for missing the last lot of replies, thanks all. Massaging in coconut oil to her fur would be a nightmare I think because of her fur type, and washing and drying her is a real chore! I've moved her over to Wolfworthy now so will see if it improves. She is already grain-free.
It's already not as bad as it was so am wondering if it's seasonal allergy related?
I do brush her several times a week as she gets knotty.
I will wait for a few months now she's on this new food then May get her allergy tested if there's no improvement.
She's not itchy so not uncomfortable- just dry flaky skin.

Has anything improved OP?

Just found this thread by searching before starting a thread for my own DDog.

She's never had particularly dry skin until the past two or three months and now it's terrible.

She's on tails.com at the moment but have just switched their wet food to cans of Chappies as she wasn't super keen and TBH we're trying to cut costs.

I've seen Chappies mentioned a lot by various posters saying their vets said it was the best tinned food even though reasonably cheap.

She also gets leftovers so has quite a varied diet.

Hoping it isn't a food intolerance...also, could it be when she's only had the issue for 2-3 months and is 2.5 yrs old?

Looking at the all about dog food link I think we'll try Millie's Wolfheart with Butcher's canned next.
