When did you remove your crate? I want my kitchen back!

If your dog sleeps in his / her crate through the night…. But you wanted the space in your kitchen! When did you remove and did they continue to sleep just as well?

Why would you want to remove his safe place?

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 14/05/2023 06:29

Because it’s ugly and in the way presumably!

Exactly! It’s a pain in the ass having it there! 😂

Mine hasn't had hers removed but occasionally she doesn't head straight there at night so I don't put her in.

If that's the case she is on her bed in the hallway with access to the utility room. Generally sleeps fine there although can be woken if the cats come in or out

I removed the crate when my girl was one. She was absolutely fine, she either sleeps on my bed, my sons bed or her bed. She sleeps in later than she did in the crate. I couldnt wait to get rid of it either, was brilliant when she was a puppy and it was totally the right thing to do but yeah, once she was one she just didn't need it. She never ever got in there of her own free will so she was probably just as glad to get rid of it too.

When I moved my dog into the kitchen from our room, which was roughly when he was dry in the night

Eleven months old. I left the door open for several nights then replaced the crate with his adult bed, filled with all the lovely doggy smelling bedding from the crate. And that was it.

Usually about 18 mths old , they do get a bit miffed about it though .

I would never get rid of mine, my dog has never slept in it overnight either, but she'll happily go in there if I have 'guests' who aren't keen on dogs.

I never know what's around the corner, whether she'll be ill and need cage rest, or go senile and need to be crated for her own safety etc so I like to keep my dogs used to crates.

I don't mind the crate in the corner but if I did I'd get a nice cover for it or buy one that looks like it's a piece of furniture, have a Google there are some really nice ones
