Miniture pincher age 5
for the last 5 weeks ,on and off ,has been retching ,bringing up foam ,bringing up yellow bile ,and making weird noises ,like a deep gurgle sound .
three vets appointments
blood tests for pancreatitis clear ,score was 30 ,needs to be over 200 for positive result.
blood tests including white blood cells show slight infection,so he’s currently on antibiotics.
plus he’s on very expensive food ,gastrointestinal royal canin.
so far im trying to feed him little and often 4 meals a day
he’s just come back from a walk and thrown up on the walk the contents of his stomach.plus his antibiotics.
the vet is saying wait and see ,
but wait and see what ,this is 5 weeks now ,,vet says nothing is really showing in any blood tests ,but dog is clearly not himself, and we can hear him trying to vomit at night ,but nothing coming out .
has anyone any ideas what could be going on please

You may get more replies posting in The Doghouse section. I personally would go back to the vet.

Ask for a referral to a specialist vet. Poor boy, hope you get to the bottom of it.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/05/2023 15:44

Has he been x rayed or scanned ? I wonder if he has swallowed something that he can’t vomit back up.

Honeyroar · 12/05/2023 15:45

I’d think about a second opinion from another vet.

Happenchance · 12/05/2023 15:55

Has your vet mentioned Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)?

If you're in contact with your dog's breeder, I would ask them if they know if any of his relatives have been diagnosed with anything that could explain your dog's symptoms.

Summerpetal · 12/05/2023 16:16

Poo is normal ,no change ,
and he was free on Facebook a friend of a friend ,when he was 18 months old ,we took him and ended up paying £100 ,so not free in the end ,so nothing bad happened to him .
and I don’t think they got him from a breeder .
but no vet hasn’t mentioned IBD ,I will look it up thanks

In most cases of vomiting, a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice is suggested. Just very small amounts until your dog stops vomiting. Has your vet suggested using a bland diet?

Azealeasinbloom · 12/05/2023 18:02

One of mine was similar, and it turned out to be food intolerance. She has hydrolysed protein diets only now and that fixed the issue.
IME some vets are more switched on about food / gastro issues than others , so if it’s still an issue, get a second opinion.
You may also want to see if there is a breed group on Facebook who may be able to say if there are any health tendencies in the breed.
Miniature Pinschers are gorgeous little dogs - the ones I have met are full of sass 😁

yes it could be this ..although the vomiting is mainly bile or foam ,so when his tummy is empty .the sick very rarely has food in it

My dog suffered with hunger pukes when he was around 2 years old, each morning he would be sick with yellow liquid or white foam. We gave him his last meal a bit later and he had some biscuits before bedtime and this seemed to sort it. Your vet has changed his food without really knowing what’s the problem, I would have fed a plain rice and chicken diet to see if that helps first before changing food as this can upset them if not done gradually.

Theoscargoesto · 13/05/2023 07:44

Possibly silly question but whilst it might be unusual to go on for so long, the noises and the retching sound a bit like kennel cough…….
