Fox poo stink!!

Ddog rolled in some fox poo yesterday. 😣 Despite a wash yesterday and a good bath this morning he still whiffs. Anyone got any tips to minimise the pong?

This might sound weird but when I stepped into fox poo, quite a few years ago my countryside living friend said to smear them in ketchup. She uses it for her dogs when they've rolled in the stink. I was about to bin the boots so thought I might as well try it. And it worked! I let it dry and then washed it off. No more stink. She rubs it over DDog's coat. Takes them for a walk to let it dry and washes it off afterwards. Say says any brand will do but Heinz works best...

I second the ketchup suggestion. Or Animology’s Fox Poo Shampoo. Or both (shampoo after to get rid of the last of the fox and also the ketchupy smell.)

My dog is obsessed with fox poo so have tried A LOT of de-stinking products. Those are the best.

Fox poo shampoo is the best.

I third the tomato ketchup/purée suggestion. The Animology shampoo finishes it off. The only trouble with the ketchup is it your dog is white or pale - I end up with a black, white and pink spaniel...

I use fox poo shampoo but last time it was so bad he went to the groomers 😁

My dog loved fox poo!

She had a slightly longer coat than say a Labrador, so when we got home I would leave her in the garden for a short while, then hopefully when it was a little drier I would cut it out of her hair with scissors.

I found washing it out just leaves a lingering smell, but I’d never heard of the ketchup trick.

Thanks, I will try the ketchup trick. He is a pale gold colour, so might end up pink. I don't care, as long as he smells fresher. 🐕

Definitely the ketchup!
I have a very hairy, fluffy double coated fox poo addict... and NONE of the 'poo' shampoos truly get the stink out after a really good roll!

I finally decided to try the ketchup... rubbed a ton in, left it a few mins and then rinsed and THEN shampooed... and NO smell!

Oh wow, so glad you posted this. I thought I was just doing a rubbish job of shampooing, didn't realise fox poo lingers. She absolutely loves it and even tries to eat it 🤢 (though has zero interest in dog poo), and it's always in our closest field. Ok, ketchup it is!

Moanycowbag · 22/04/2023 21:55

Ketchup and leave it on to soak for a while.

Spraying on white vinegar, then wiping off with kitchen towel always works for us.

Ketchup 👍👍👍👍

Bovrilla · 22/04/2023 22:34

Yep, ketchup!

I make my own dog shampoo (soap) bars with activated charcoal and herbal essential oils which do a decent job of minimising the whiff.

He tested my patience last weekend by adding otter spraint to his rolling repertoire. That was a new delight 🤢🤢🤢
