Does anyone treat their dog with this and if so how much does it cost per month?

Is it covered by petplan insurance do you know?

We had a short trial but it didn't make any noticeable difference (thought he might have arthritis due to previous accidents).

It was around £90-100 a month and was covered by my insurance which was petplan (but then he has been covered for life since 8 weeks old so no preconditions).

my 16 year old collie has been on this for a couple of months now. despite her years, I didn't think she was showing outward signs of arthritis but vet said she was masking her pain by sleeping a lot, which is previously put down to her age. this made me feel awful/guilty and decided to try it. mine costs £78, I don't have insurance. a few people have commented that she is noticeably more sprightly so I'll stay with it for now

QueenSmartypants · 16/04/2023 19:09

Thank you that's helpful, think I'll speak to the vet about it

Mine has it. He's not insured, costs me £110 a month. He's just under 30kg

It seems to have made a big difference. He's off his metacam now and more sprightly

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 16/04/2023 19:11

It has been life changing for ours.
£110 every 4 weeks (eek) but this is a dog that a year ago I thought we would have to have put down.
Took 3 lots to take effect but I gather it usually kicks in quicker than that.

QueenSmartypants · 16/04/2023 19:44

That's so great to hear. My old boy seems to be limping much more often and has generally slowed down. One leg is clearly weak, I'm starting to worry because the metacam and youmove don't seem to be as effective anymore.

We found the same - had to stop metacam due to reaction, previcox ditto. Paracetamol worked for a while , gabapebtin had no effect and yumove can't perform miracles.

Librela is amazing stuff, just hugely expensive!

HI - just to say that we are giving Librella to our elderly girl and although the first month I didnt notice a massive difference when it was wearing off was when i noticed the difference. Also our vet was happy to just provide a prescription and then teach me how to give it so that we could buy it online ourselves and then inject ourselves which makes it about £50 per month. Its a simple sub cutaneous injection just into the scruf of the neck.

Laguiri · 29/11/2023 18:25

My elderly boy (14) just started on it 3 weeks ago. No change so far 😢. In my country, it costs 40€/month (UK vet prices are 😱).

QueenSmartypants · 30/11/2023 14:41

Good luck with it @Laguiri
It's definitely helped my dog but hasn't been the miracle drug I had hoped for.

It's amazing stuff

My little old girl was on it for three years, it helped a lot. Can’t remember now the exact price but she was tiny so the smallest vial used to last her four months. The vet kept it in their fridge with her name on it once she started a new batch, so it cost very little for her . I don’t have insurance so don’t know about that. After the initial cost of a new vial the vet used to charge me £6 a visit for her remaining three top up injections, just to cover her time.

Daffodilapidated · 01/12/2023 13:03

My large breed dog has it at £101 a shot but she doesn't require monthly injections - so far I have tried it as far apart as once every 8 weeks. She may be able to go longer but I am reluctant to leave it until she starts looking stiff. It has transformed her life, she's a different dog now!

Does anyone have any update on this - considering it for my elderly dog. Also interested to know how much it is costing for 25kg dogs or thereabouts. Thanks!

One of my cockers gets it every five weeks. She's 11KG and it costs £50 but that includes a check up as well as she has several lumps/bumps and warts that we're keeping an eye on and a proper ear cleaning.

It's £60 for the Springer I'm fostering (22KG) and again, every five weeks (but no consultation - just a stab and dash).

Fantastic! Thanks so much, that’s really helpful.

We've also done this, prescription cost £24 for 6 months and ordered it online for approx £50 a month
