Taking dog to France

Has anyone got experience taking their dog to France on holiday? I’ve read what needs to be done and it all sounds ok if we use ferry with a dog lounge. I’m worried about visiting a vet in France the day before we come home for the worming treatment. I’d love to hear people’s experiences please

What is it that worries you? Make sure you make the appointment in advance. Vets all speak a level of English but the nurses/secretaries may not so look up any words you may need.

We have! Our usual vet was really helpful. There's a lot of paperwork to fill out so make sure you give it plenty of time. Also make sure that all jabs are up to date and they also need rabies vaccine and the worming

Whereabouts in France are you thinking of going and how are you planning on getting there. Ferry or Eurostar??

There a few Facebook groups that share a map with contact details for vets around France that have been used for return wormer treatment. Most have good level of English and either email address to book what you want or in some cases just walk in. We booked via email in Chamonix last year with no problems.

Don't worry, most vets will be familiar with english and the necessary paperwork.

We go every year and has done for the last 4 years, our dog is now 6, yes it was a bit difficult in the earlier trips as we don't speak much french more than school french to book the vet, we are campers so I just went to reception and asked them to make the call and make the appointment.

Check the price though as in depending where you are we have been told Euro 120 to 45 so it totally depends where you are! The time limit is ok so if you get a high price in one are, go to the next and try again. Go for a vet in a bit of a non tourist area.

France is incredibly dog friendly so you can take your dog everywhere, although they seem to be on lead but restaurants, cafes etc no probmems

Would have to be the ferry, I don't think the Eurostar accept pets at all.

I know it sounds backwards but our dog didn't like the kennels on board was much more comfortable in the car in her crate which she was used to and familiar surrounding

Eurotunnel accept pets, Eurostar don't

Thanks everyone that sounds really good and relatively easy. We won’t take her in the summer as it’s hot and we do beaches and swimming etc but I think we’ll try and take her in October when the weather is better for her to be out and about with us. I’ve still got a couple of p&o ferry crossing credits from covid and they’ve got a dog lounge which looks nice.

Eurotunnel have a pets lane ! Dogs cats and rather surprisingly ferrets have to use a separate checkin ( with their owners, obv) . It’s quite pricey, though.
