Dog has diarroea - blockage or cheese

Dog has diarrhoea and I'm panicking a little. He's a cocker spaniel.

He was whining overnight and I got up and managed to step in it by the back door!

I'm worried as we had two incidents over the weekend.

First one, was that he nicked a bit of chicken bone off a plate. It wasn't a proper bone, but one of those bits that gets left in a chicken breast mini fillet. I had chewed it by mistake and then left it on my plate.

I also found him with the cheddar cheese packet that my son had left on the table. Probably a quarter of a block of cheese.

If it's the cheese, then I'm not worried so much but worried it my be a blockage from the bit of bone.

If it was a blockage it’s more like it would be constipation.

keep his food plain today and take him for a good lng walk.

A vet check up is needed urgently, ie today. Sounds like your dog has gastric inflammation from the chicken bone. At best, he may need antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. At worst, his digestive tract could be blocked or pierced, both very serious. Chicken bones are bad news for dogs, especially cooked bones, so your dog appears to be at risk.

Cheese always used to give ours diarrhoea. But due to the bone issue I'd get him checked out.

I'll get him checked out. He seems very perky this morning and I've given his abdomen a good feel and prod and it doesn't seem to be bothering him.

Fingers crossed it was the cheese but I'll get him checked out by the vet in any case.

Cheese is not good for dogs as most are lactose intolerant, boiled chicken & rice / dry foods for a few days and see how he goes

I wouldn't be paying out for a vet if he seems ok. I would give plain chicken and rice today and see how his poo goes today.

We've been for a walk. He has his normal levels of energy, sprinting after squirrels, playing with other dogs, so he's certainly not lethargic or uncomfortable.

He sounds fine. Probably the cheese - very high fat, and some dogs are lactose intolerant.

Id keep an eye on him and if he gets worse then take a trip to the vets. When my cocker had a blockage he was vomiting loads, and straining to go for a poo. It was a corn on the cob husk that had caused the blockage.

He has also swallowed one of those in the past, pretty much whole.

It took a swift 10pm trip to the emergency vet and luckily they got him to throw it up. She said they made more cockers vomit than any other breed.

Utter trash pandas.
