Have a nine week old wiemeraner , have free pet plan insurance for next few weeks so covered for now.
Which insurers would you recommend, in terms of premiums and depth of coverage.

I went through top cash back and got really good cover from Tescos with cash back of £64. Make sure you read what is excluded etc

People always recommend pet plan on here. I've gone through loads of past posts and online reviews too and they do stand out. It's not the cheapest but does seem one of the most reliable. Past posters have said that their vets will often deal with them directly. We have stuck with them after our free month ran out.

Pet Plan 'covered for life' or an equivalent plan.

It's more expensive than some other insurance providers; however, the level of cover is superior.

Pet plan definitely. Expensive but they’ve happily paid out on £16k of surgery on my 2 4 year old cats over their lifetime so far. I got them the top level of cover which I’m thankful I did now.

I’ve used petplan for 14 years, never had a single problem with any claim but they aren’t cheap.
Ive also got one with Agria which was lots cheaper and I believe is underwritten by the kennel club. Again no problems.

Avoid many pets unless you don’t mind a huge price hike in year 2!!

I use Many Pets. £15, 000 cover. Premium for year old Labrador was about £400.

I have been looking at Waggel, they seem reasonable and have fairly good reviews.

We have used Pet Plan for decades and to be honest for the monthly premiums which probably are more expensive than Tesco etc their service is superior . There have been times when my dogs have undergone surgery and whatever and the Vet will just claim direct from them .
I don't have to pay the Vet then claim on insurance . I don't need that sort of hassle when my dog is ill . Get lifetime policy .

I use any of the 'decent' names I can get the best quote from - Many Pets, More Than, Direct Line, John Lewis type thing.

Have had to claim from More Than recently, twice, and have to say their service is top notch these days - refund issued virtually immediately and in my bank just a few days after submitting the claim.

Remember that there is a 14 day intro period on (all? most?) pet insurance, so you need to get your cover overlap set up two weeks before the current one expires.

I've used Many Pets for a few years and have been very pleased with the cover and ease of claiming. DD has just insured her puppy with them that sadly has been found to have a very serious heart condition and they've been great with sorting out specialists etc.

My partner works in a vets and we use Petplan. I think that counts as a recommendation.

drivinmecrazy · 31/03/2023 13:01

Good to hear about PetPlan especially as they've literally just emailed me about an introductory offer for when free plan ends

I'm with Tesco and I was amazed to find that some of my claims would be paid before I even left the vet's car park when my dog needed very expensive and ongoing eye treatments. So would reccommend. other than that, I have used Pet plan in the past and they are pretty good too.
