Kennel cough vaccine and newborn?

Does anyone know what the general advice is on having a newborn and a dog vaccinated against kennel cough?

I am currently pregnant and my vet won’t give our dog the KC vax because of risk of transmission. However, this is not a long term solution for us since we will have a newborn around very soon and might be risky around newborn.

I believe there is the inactive version of the vaccine on the market which would be the safest option but struggling to find a vet practice that offers it in my area.

I also feel my vet is being overly cautious with this approach rather than scientific-based.

Have you had a similar experience? Thank you

Vet friend relayed a really similar question (the owner was immunocompromised). The general theme of it was "FML no one knows" after she told the owner to ask the doctor, only to find the doctor told the owner to ask the vet. Can't remember what the outcome was, but don't assume anyone knows tbh.

Once a long time ago a severely immune compromised person caught bordetella from the live kennel cough vaccine. So the data sheet has to advise caution with immune compromised people. It became a bigger deal during Covid as it was thought if you were incubating Covid and had contact with the live KC vaccine.
I take immunosuppressive drugs, (not the level for shielding) and happily give the vaccine.
If I had a premature new born who had had or currently had respiratory problems I would be cautious.
There is an injectable vaccine now, but if it has be more than 12 months since the last KC vaccine you need 2 injections 4 weeks apart to be protective, it is more expensive than regularly KC and vets have to buy it in a bottle of 10 doses that have to be used in 28 days once opened.

Doesn’t answer your question, but I’ve never vaccinated for kennel cough, unless you need it doing for a specific reason, it won’t do any harm to just skip a year.
