Waggel Insurance

Is Waggel any good, their reviews aren't too bad and I like the fact you. can choose your cover and excess and the prices seem reasonable, I know Pet Plan are good but have issues with NF advertising for them, so puts me off them.

I'm afraid I've never heard of them, but isn't choosing your level of cover absolutely normal and deciding on excess widespread too?

The advantage with PetPlan (FWIW I'm not with them) is that they are the company far and away most likely to be accepted by vets for paying direct to them. Which might be a factor if you know your cashflow means that pay yourself and get refunded might be a bit of a squeeze

No, most pet insurance has always just been a choice of a couple policies of so much cover a set excess lifetime or yearly or at least it was when I last brought some. I know PP. are good like that, but vets never used to be allowed to promote or recommended a company and now Mr wannabe god Noel Fitzpatrick is sitting on my telly telling me how great Pet Plan is when he is singlehandly one the main reason of the huge. hikes in insurance, it just all seems a bit conflict of interests to me, so I would rather not use them.

I find those adverts that sponsor his TV show annoying. I thought that about recommendations but in past vets practices there were sales leaflets for insurance in waiting room and they sell supplements etc.

Only seen waggel advertised on SM don't know anyone using them. I can't complain as Petplan have been great with my very old dog, she's maxed out her £7k policy for the past 3 yrs anhas stayed 18% increase on annual renewals which was same for my other dog too. The vets are always happy to claim direct and only excess to pay upfront which is a blessing when I've had £2-5k bills. They also don't penalise for claims which past co's did so I can claim for everything rather than it only being worth high bills or I'd end up paying more back in premiums for rest of dogs lifetime.

Many insurers are great until old age ( or have high claims) and then the premiums rocket to get shot of the risk. By then it's very difficult to get another lifetime policy and have pre-existing conditions will lose cover by switching so people end up cancelling and forced to self fund. All at a time when you need the cover as while maybe think not want put through surgery, with old age comes arthritis, kidney, heart issues, diabetes, cushings etc liveable conditions but with expensive medications/treatments. My dogs meds alone cost more than my monthly premiums.

My dog is insured with ManyPets. We chose our excess (£150, I think) and there were various levels of cover. We have £15,000.

We use Manypets, excellent customer service and their 24/7 virtual vet appointment system works really well. We pay £36 a month for both our dog and cat combined insurance and that covers fees up to £3k but we might up this soon.

Hi
I used to be with Waggel and they were really good. I made two very similar claims in the same year totalling £2.5k (DDog eating rubbish and getting sick) and they were paid with zero hassle within a week of the claim.
I only moved because I wanted higher coverage and Waggel's ceiling was £6k.
I moved to Many Pets - awful. I have made one small claim after an accident requiring stitches under sedation and they tried to get out of paying by querying the breed and then it took two months and several phone calls to get anywhere. I think they used to be great and after their rebrand went downhill.
I always mention Waggel when insurance comes up because they aren't that well known and I only have good thing to say about them.

I used Waggel for a couple of years and never made a claim but the premiums shot up each time. Am now with Corinium which is cheap and cheerful but paid up promptly when Mr dog scoffed a bag of raisins and had to be taken to the emergency vet and then be kept in for observation for 2 days.

@Primrosesanddaisies thank you, I think I might give them a go then.

@Definitelyrandom I have found that with any pet insurance the price shoots up every year regardless of claims, but I tend to only insure for the first few years, and then cancel and pay what the premium was into a saving account to hopefully cover any bills.
