Dog pooing in flowerbeds!

Hi

We recently moved house and our 5 year old dog has started to poo in the flowerbeds - it's driving me nuts!

We didn't have beds in the old garden, and she was very particular about which part of the grass she poo'd on, but now she doesn't seem to care! I really don't want her pooing in the flowerbeds though Envy

No pets in the house before, so it's not like she's trying to cover their scent? We don't think there are any local cats, but can't be 100% sure.

Does anyone have any tips on how to stop her doing this? We have considered fencing off the areas but they are only small and I think it'll look daft. Would rather find a way to just stop her!

Thanks

You can teach her not to go on the flowerbeds at all - make them out of bounds. I did this with certain parts of my garden where i didn't want things getting trampled. First I teach the concept of on/off - I used the sofa inside to do this. So say on (encourage dog on with hand gestures etc) - mark with "yes" and treat. Then do the same for off - make a big fuss/plenty of treats with the off. Then when your dog understands the concept of on/off start to use "off" when out in the garden every time your dog goes towards the beds. Plenty of praise when the dog gets it right, if they don't listen then just move them off firmly and repeat. It takes a bit of patience and consistency at the start but my dog learned in a couple of days and now never sets foot on there

She likes that ground better (grass isn't as good as it is more solid) so other than training with treats or praise (easy to do) you could provide her with her own earthy or sandy poop pit for her business. She sounds like she is careful with where she likes to go so that would make her happy x

Find a spot that does suit you and every time you let it out, guide ddog there, gently keep her there until she relieves herself and then release her with treats and praise.

Dog needs to know where she CAN go as well as where she can’t.

My dog does this too! I hate it
So I've tried scent off granules which work for a day or two.

Watching her and saying no only works if I watch

Chicken wire low level on the edges (she jumped it)

I bought some mini fences off Amazon and blocked off her favourite bed. Working very well so far!
