Recommendations for chews please

Hi everyone. My 9 month old Cockapoo seems to have a bit of a sensitive stomach. If she has rawhide (yes, I know now about issues with this) or even those chews which are wrapped in chicken, she gets diarrhoea.

Can anyone recommend a long lasting chew which is mild or good for those with sensitive stomachs? She loves chewing on toys like a nylabone but she eats the little bits and I'm not too sure that's good for her.

She's had pig ears but they stink! Everything is quite expensive at pets at home so I don't really want to try loads of things and end up with them all being unsuitable.

Thanks.

Cow hooves, yak sticks, buffalo horns, skins (beef head skin I think they sell at pets at home).
Cow ears are less smelly than pigs ears too

Yak milk chews are great, long lasting and no smell

OhMerde · 16/03/2023 21:03

Ostrich bone.

geminiflanagan · 16/03/2023 21:03

Yak chews, all the way

Fluffypeach · 16/03/2023 21:09

Yak chews for sure. My dog has a monthly amazon subscription 😂

Whyisitdarkalready · 16/03/2023 21:12

Where do you buy these chews?

Yak chews, and antlers - many people (including some vets) don't like antlers as there are stories of dogs breaking teeth on them.

I've had 3 dogs, they've all enjoyed antlers (when young with good teeth - I didn't give them to my senior dog as her teeth were weaker) and not had any problems, but it's worth being aware!

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 16/03/2023 21:23

Split antlers are a good option - reduces the risk of split teeth

JustJamie5 · 16/03/2023 21:26

Ours has antlers, paddywack , pizzel … and softer chews but I put them in an egg box and tape it shut. Or I’ll pop biscuits in a plastic bottle. Anything to keep her busy!

yak chews gave her a dodgy belly… I think they’re like a hard cheese so possibly too rich for her! I think B&M and maybe the range sell.

Chicken feet, rabbit and deer ears.

The fur on the ears is a really good naturally gut cleanser too.

ohsheglows · 16/03/2023 22:06

Whimzees! They're made from veggies and last ages too. You can buy a pack of 48 for £18. It's worked a treat with our teething cocker spaniel!

ilovesushi · 16/03/2023 22:28

Deer legs with all the fur on are amazing. I don't guarantee they are odour free but less smelly than pigs' ears. Not sure what age they are okay for. Rawhide is not a good idea.

Echoing the PPs my 9 month old cocker spaniel adores yakkers and antlers. Don't bother with the fake antlers PAH seem to push, they last minutes!

Floralnomad · 17/03/2023 10:53

My dog loves ostrich , he has the braids and the metatarsal bones ( Amazon pack of 3 around £20) , he didn’t like the huge ostrich bones and the wings apparently shatter so I would avoid those . Yak chews also go down well , some are long lasting and some he eats really quickly so I think it depends on the brand .

Spanielsarepainless · 17/03/2023 12:58

The bits of Nylabone are fine for them to eat. Mine have been hoovering them up for several decades and all have had sensitive tummies. Latest Labrador can't have chicken so many commercial treats are off the menu.

DforDogWoof · 17/03/2023 16:52

My dogs have always loved Benebone. There are 2 shapes. Get the wishbone shaped one.

DforDogWoof · 17/03/2023 16:53

Not sure if it has already been mentioned but deffo no rawhide.

Whyisitdarkalready · 17/03/2023 18:06

Thank you everyone. @Spanielsarepainless I didn't realise that nylabones are ok to be consumed. My dog will be glad as she loves them!

I'm going to spend some time researching the different suggestions, so thank you all for the tips.
