I have a 6 month old male staff, does anybody have any tips for getting him to stop biting my feet?

He will do this when im stood in the kitchen preparing dinner, and generally walking round the house trying to do something.

they are sharp bites but dont pierce the skin, he is wagging his tail and barking when hes doing this. i thought it was my fluffy slippers so removed these but he still goes for them.

I shout no move him away give him a chew toy but doesnt seem to distract him and hes hell bent on getting to my feet.

He also does this in the garden whenever we go out onto the grass with him, we have a picket fence so can section him away on the patio but as soon as hes on the grass hes biting at everyones feet.

I just cant seem to get it under control and its getting me down, hes brilliant on walks, recall is good, sits for food, does paw and wait etc.

Please help :(

You shouting might be making it more of a game for him? I’d personally as soon as he starts put him in a different room. Rinse and repeat every bloody time.

@Lastqueenofscotland2 its hard to catch him to put him in a different room, he runs off and bows down and wags his tail so yeah i think he thinks its a game, but then ill go back to what im doing and he will try again. i can see how im making this a game for him now actually

Pop a line on him when he's in the house. If he tries to run off, stand on the line. Put him somewhere to chill out with a Kong to work off the excess energy, and put your slippers back on.

Offer him something more fun - distract him with toys like this

Standing on the line would stop him running off, so once you've stood on it you'd pick him up and move him to somewhere he can't just come back and chase you from, somewhere he can chill with a kong or a likimat and go back to what you were doing.

A house line is really handy to control your puppy before they're old enough to respond to voice commands, and stop them bombing about your house biting your feet, and causing mayhem while you're peeling the carrots.

Stand on the line, which will stop him running off and then circling back for another go because you're getting excited and it's a fun game, and then either pick him up, or lead him to the place where he goes for a chill out, so behind the baby gate/in his crate/in the pen/ whatever your set up is.

If you can't control him with your commands, because he's six months, you need to use tools to do this, barriers, house lines, etc. They also get super bitey when they are tired, so a kong and a nap might be a good idea when the sharkiness comes out.

If he bites your ankle, you say Barney No... sit.... and he stops and sits, waits a bit then wanders off to his bed where you praise him and give him something to chew, then yes keep saying No because it is working.

If you say No, and he looks at you and does it again, then, it's not working and you need to do something different until he has had enough training for your voice commands to be effective.

@GoldDuster thanks :)

Does he need more naps? I think the biting can be to do with being overtired and over stimulated.
