Torn crutiate ligaments

Hi there, wondered if anyone had experience of their dog healing from partial tear crutiate ligaments without surgery? My boy is 13 years old and weighs 11kg. We have been to vet and decided together we would opt for the 6-8 weeks rest recover. Trouble is, it's nearly 2 weeks since he was injured and there doesn't seem much change! He is on loxicom and sedative to stop him jumping around so much. We are being very careful with him, crating him in the car and only out for 10 mins on a short lead 3/4 times a day. I'm worried we will have to go down surgery route 😩

Similar issues here so I can sympathise! Only mine is a 7 month old puppy with a tibial tuberosity avulsion fracture… keeping him still is not an easy task!

He had an op in Feb, still not right and patella displaced again. Now on 6 Trazodone a day to sedate him but he still does zoomies in the crate. (Whippet 🤣)

Walking very well though and has weekly physio but X-rays in a few weeks will determine if he has to have another operation. 🤦🏼‍♀️

He has a lot of bones to chew, lick mats and dog puzzles to keep him occupied but he’s still supposed to be on crate rest. He’s not able to be a puppy and physio said as long as he’s properly weight-bearing and as long as we’re careful, he doesn’t need to spend all day in the crate… he even has a doggy pushchair so we go for wheelies not walkies. 🤣

Keep us updated! Wishing him a good recovery!

Oh my goodness I feel your pain! That must be so hard for you and him! Milo is 13 so not going down the surgery route. It's weird though, sometimes he wakes up in the morning and he is almost walking fine but as the day goes on he seems to lump a bit more! I guess it's just going to take as long as it takes. 😩

I just want to update on my previous post, it's a fair old time since our terrier did his ligaments and he's been limited pretty much to garden only exercise since. We've taken him on the odd walk but get upset seeing his back legs five way underneath him. Clearly too much for him. I've just walked him back from the local bar and he was fine. It made me so happy. (Both hind leg cruciate ligaments, terrier, no surgery just rest)

That's brilliant to hear, you must be so happy!

Hello! Our 6.5kg (who thinks she's 100kg, definitely suffers from small dog syndrome) is about a year post injury now. If she overdoes it, or is trying the sympathy vote for something she's not normally allowed she will hop about on 3 legs. She's 12 next month and the vet said with her being small and old they'd see how she got on with rest first and she seems to have 'healed' as best as she could do. She also thinks she's a puppy (still!). Hope Milo recovers well 🐾 x
