Family with 2 small children are thinking of maybe ( still on the fence) of getting a dog. It must be compatible, so here's the criteria. If anyone has any suggestions, please..

  1. Good for children
  2. Good with cats
  3. Not too much exercise is needed ( Alstians need 2 hours walking a day, so big no no)
  4. Nothing too yappy
  5. Nothing too big that DH couldn't lift, if it was ill and had to pick up and take to the vets ( We like bull mastiff but they are around 90kgs!)
  6. protective of family but not a guard dog
  7. Nothing prone to medical problems

Tbf, best burglar deterrent I ever heard of was my friends cat.

sat on the stairs and took a swipe at said burglar through the bannister as he was creeping past. Cue yells of terror, loot dropped and he quick sharped out of there 😂

A Rottweiler bitch would be a good call as someone recommended;we have a male;he's a lovable idiot but huge as he's a male;the females are smaller and usually have a longer lifespan than the male;I'd definitely raise one from a pup if you have kids and cats.

I grew up with a male mastiff and we had a female as our first family dog (as in myself and DH and the kids),she adorned our young children and the cat however the sad part of owning a very large breed is the risk of early death and other illnesses they can be prone to like cancer.

This made me laugh!
We have a cat near us, that took a swipe at one of my dogs, whilst on a walk, from his hiding place (under a car) and made the poor dog squeal (tbh the dog is a wuss anyway).
We now call that feline 'ASBO cat' (it's actually a really sweet cat!)

What is a 'natural' dog owner? Is it not someone who would ensure they are compatible with the family before buying? Be able to be there with it 24/7? Dedicate time for walking? Give it a big space to live in?

Ignore the “you’re not ready for a dog” type comments OP, they’re just keyboard warriors.

id go for a Leonberger
