Any vets/vet nurses about? Spot on eye

Morning!

Ive noticed this spot on my dogs eye the last few days.

She has insurance but the excess is £100 and I don't have that right now. If I go and am told its 'just a spot' I'll be eating beans for a fortnight for nothing 😂

But equally I don't want to regret not going, you know?

Any ideas what it might be and what I'm asking mostly is...

'How long do I keep an eye on it before going to the vets? If it's just a spot it should go away in a few days? A week? And if it doesn't go away I should go in when?'

I have health anxiety and I'm thinking I should just take her but I'm really financially fucked right now and it might just be a normal spot??

Any ideas?

My dog had one of these. Over time It grew to a size where it began to irritate her so the vet removed it. The vet warned it might grow back and after a while it did! As she was an old dog I didn’t have her operated on again.
I would suggest you just monitor it, if you feel it’s getting bigger and starting to bother your dog then ask the vet’s advice.

We have a larger one in a similar place. The vet checked it wasn't resting on the eye itself which would be a problem otherwise to keep an eye on it (sorry the pun).

It is growing and is very wart like so at some point I think we will need to have it surgically removed.

Ah. OK. I will keep an eye on it and save up the excess in the meantime.

I’m not a vet but based on the experience of my previous dog (this was a few years ago & DDog was not young) do get it checked.

As you can see from previous posters, it’s likely to be innocent & you’re probably ok to save up.

But if it gets bigger quickly over the next week or so, don’t wait any longer. Hope that’s enough time for you to save. Don’t want to frighten you but in our case, it got bigger really quickly and it was lymphoma.

It was good that we caught it early (we got it seen about two weeks after it first appeared). There was a good chance that in removing it, it could have been the end of the story if it had been the primary site. Sadly, it turned out to be secondary (what we’d thought was gum disease was the primary site) but even so, by catching it & starting treatment early, it can be slowed right down.

Oh wow, I'm sorry.

I'm definitely going to get it seen then

Just had an online vet consult.

They set up a 2nd one in a weeks time to check if there is any growth or change then will make a plan from there.

She did say its hard to tell without a physical examination so I dont know whether to just take her tomorrow

I think online vet consults are good for deciding if you need seeing urgently or not but can be difficult if it's assessing a lump.

Was it your usual vets or one attached to your insurance?

We have left lumps until a normal vet check up and even the eye lump we left until he went for his vaccinations but we are a frequent visitor at the vets so a lump is actually the least of his problems.

However I think if it is going to cause you anxiety worrying about what it might be maybe make an appointment next week.

Puggywugg · 05/03/2023 15:48

It was via insurance,

I think I'll take her in. Better safe than sorry.

Not a vet- I’d probably keep an eye on it (no pun intended) and save up in your shoes. Unless it’s bothering the dog or grows.

Puggywugg · 11/03/2023 12:31

This is it today. I have a follow up video call tomorrow.

It seems to have shrunk but got redder?

Our vets charges £40 for a vet check; you wouldn’t claim on your insurance for the visit unless it’s the start of a claim for an issue

Chalazion, Papilloma… (according to google). I’d probably still just watch it, unless it’s bothering the dog, or there is discharge. If you can afford it, I’d take to the vet, only as it’s changed colour.

There used to be a few vets on here, surprised they haven’t come in to advise..
