Most comfy post-op collar?

About to get our dog neutered, and I went to buy the collar that I’d previously bought when the old dog had an op, but they don’t do it any more. It was a Buster premium - deep neoprene collar and a very flexible plastic cone (didn’t make him bounce backwards when he caught it on a door frame!). Seeing as my boy is a pampered little prince, any recommendations for the most comfortable cone available?

We opted for a surgical suit over a cone for our bitch and our dog. They’re like baby gros for dogs, just got to remember to undo their poppers before you take them to the loo!

The suits do look more comfortable, but I know he’d chew through one in about 15 seconds!

If you used a cone as well that should stop him chewing through it

We used a surgical suit for our pug, it was nicer than a collar but I think the compression of it made him not know he needed a wee (or he was just being really lazy).

We have a big dog who has just been neutered and the collar is bigger than our whole pug, it's a nightmare but a suit would have been human size and he's a fluffy dog so I think it would be too warm. Also the flexible collars wouldn't be any good as he would be able to lick still I think.

I honestly worried about a collar but our pug recently had to wear one for 3 weeks after eye surgery, needed to be the hard plastic one to protect his face and it really didn't bother him in the slightest, I wondered why I was so precious about it before lol.

Yeah, but if he had a cone as well he shouldn't need a suit anyway 😁

None of our male dogs needed a collar post castration, they just had a very neat little scar with internal dissolving stitches and were not bothered by it at all.

Yeah, I know our old dog got on better with the nicer cone we used the second time rather than the standard hard plastic one he had when he got neutered. But he only actually needed the cone for 2 or 3 days when he got neutered, so I'm hoping this one will be that easy too.

Anyway, just ordered a Comfy Cone, so will see how that goes.

That's the theory! Ours was a determined bugger, so we went with both options to be on the safe side.

Mine found his way inside a suit and infected the wound. Buster collar next time. Comfort is the least of my concerns here.

afaloren · 22/02/2023 12:07

Mine hates the cone so we got an inflatable collar. It was comfy to rest his head and did the job.

Yep, mine interfered with the wound through the suit. Costly and unpleasant resuturing. Soon got used to the plastic cone
