Dog owner leaving their dog poo in our garden

How can I prevent an irresponsible owner allowing their dog to poo on our front lawn when they refuse to pick it up? It’s been happening for a while however we caught the owner (a neighbour a few doors up) in the act yesterday. Partner asked the owner if he could please pick up his dogs waste but he refused and walked away. Partner went out and had to do it however DH left it bagged up on their doorstep after asking them to please in future pick up their dog waste (not the best idea I know) DH was met with abuse from the man and his awful wife and they threw the bags back onto our property. DH had to walk away as was getting irritated. I have reported them to the local council, however it’s clear they really don’t care so how can I deter the dog from coming into our property? I wouldn’t normally be bothered if they picked it up. I understand that dogs need to go and that I do have the biggest lawned front garden in our road. However if the owner isn’t going to clean it up I need to make my lawn uninviting to the dog. Any ideas? I’d be very grateful. I have charged up my ring door bell again but would a ultrasonic deterrent be any good?

Water pistol is a fab idea lol I’ll be grabbing one out of the shed tomorrow.

The correct method is actually to post it through their letterbox in a burning envelope.

(I now leave you to picture them stamping out the fire...)

I assume this is a joke but please don't, you're talking about actual, potential, murder.
There are people I wish I could do this to. Post it back, definitely. Just not on fire.

Can you record the dog doing it on your ring doorbell and then give the footage as evidence to the council or dog warden? I'd also make enquiries if they own or rent or if its a social landlord and make a complaint directly to their landlord as they'd be in breach of their contract. Are they letting the dog out to do business unleashed? Or are they with their dog watching it happen?

Is he letting an on-lead dog into your garden or is it wandering in while out on a walk back to his usual spot ?

Gate is definately your way forward as you have fencing , I know its an expense but you have to weigh up your relationship with your neighbours and your own stress !

I have OSP , mine is the only one with space as all the others have rwo vehicles .
Kept seeing a pile of pooh every day , obviously someone letting their dog come back to the same spot .
I tried sluicing it onto the drain, disinfectant , Jeyes fluid the lot .
Then one day I was in the bedroom and saw The Culprit . Poor dog was just opening his bowels and I yelled , fishwifey like out of the window Don;t let your dog shit on my drive , it was dragged away before it could do its damnest and cross fingers , no more issues .
I don't know who the woman or the dog were , not any of my neighbours but obviously this was his favoured toilet !

Throwing the shit in their garden is optimal but you don;t know how they'll retaliate !

Yesterday we caught him opening their front door walking half down, standing in the road while the dog ran into our garden and did his business. That’s when DH asked him to pick up the mess but he refused and walked back to his house calling his dog.

Hot chilli powder on the lawn

Alternatively, write to them and advise them you'll be charging them for further visits.

Send an invoice every single time it happens charging them for 'use of our land as a dog potty'.

Make it as formal as you dare.

Then start sending reminders and chasers

You need a gate asap, put up something/anything ASAP
I'd also be scooping it up on a shovel and flinging it at their house (standing outside the fence) . The gobbets should form a nice arc and land in different places if you get the technique right. (I may have experience...) I wouldn't give a damn about how many neighbours heard me call them dirty buggers for letting their dog do that.

GuyFawkesDay · 13/02/2023 19:20

So they let the dog onto your property off lead?

Oh! A lost doggy!!! Take it in the house and call the dog warden. You can hand it back when they remove the poo it did.

TooTrusting · 13/02/2023 19:23

We had a dog being allowed to poo in our small work car park on a daily basis. The business owner put down liberal sprinklings of cayenne pepper which seemed to work.

MrsMikeDrop · 13/02/2023 19:30

I cannot believe the cheek of your neighbours! I'd go hard OP, give it your best! Lots of good suggestions on here

mackerelskymackerelsky · 13/02/2023 19:31

I agree with @CrotchetyQuaver . Throw it at the house high enough that it splats on the wall but isn't immediately noticeable. Can you get it on a side wall that is more sheltered from rain? They'll surely start to smell it (and hopefully start to get flies as the weather gets warmer) and when they finally realise where it is it'll be hard to clean off as too high to reach!

Ring doorbell, hand over the footage to the council and he will get a £500 fine.

Stick some small cocktail sticks randomly in the lawn in the area the dog comes in from.

Cruel and unnecessary.

I don't think you can , from what you've written about them it doesn;t sound like the GAF.
The only was is to physically prevent the dog as it doesn; look like the owner will .

It;s not the dog's fault so no chilli or sharps sticks Shock

Though
I wouldn’t normally be bothered if they picked it up. I understand that dogs need to go and that I do have the biggest lawned front garden in our road

What? Your garden does not need to present otself as a dogs loo .
Their dog, their issue .

Do you have dogs yourself ?.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 13/02/2023 20:18

No dogs only an indoor cat.

Chilli oil on the lawn and around your boundary as a deterrent.

SignOnTheWindow · 13/02/2023 20:31

Chili will simply stop the dog going near the garden as it'll be put off by the smell.
