Puppy barking because of cleaning spray?

New dog owner here!

Can I ask if kitchen sprays can cause dogs to bark?

Our rescue pup 6 months, has had a really noisy barking session, where she was very agitated, growling, barking and backing away, after staring at the dishes drying in the drainer this evening.

We removed the dish rack and crockery from her eyeline and then realised it could be the lemon surface cleaner... It says it is ammonia free, but wondering if that hasn't helped? After wiping down the surfaces with fairy liquid and water amd opening the windows, she finally settled.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Thanks.

The scents and chemicals can really bother some dogs

I had to cut out loads as it set my dog off itching!

Thank you for your reply. Hope you found a suitable substitute cleaner that didn't cause itches.

Looks like I will be changing mine too.

CD be the sprays. I use fairly dilute eco friendly ones so not sure they wd bother my dog. But btw 6-12m they also have secondary fear periods where they just get spooked by random things which haven't bothered them before. If 'wild' this would be the age they wd be exploring the world alone for the first time so it makes sense to be cautious. Tiny things like the drying rack shadow can set this off. My dog went through a few days of barking at her reflection
in windows, and got really annoyed with wheelie bins. If it's that there's not much you can do but stay calm and reassuring. Each one usually passes in a few days but you often get a few before this phase ends.

Thank you for that information. Really helpful. Getting very angry is a good description for the behaviour.

Our little pup is very nervy, has been passed between homes by the sound of things, but today she has been calmer thanks to a plaited chew and a few good run rounds in the back garden! I haven't used any sprays today in the kitchen, just in case.
