We have a 20month old old cockapoo, we rescued her as a puppy so she's been with us since she was 3 months.
She's always been full on as cockapoos tend to be, needy, hard to tire, and basically just the third child in our house. We got her after all the lockdowns but I was still WFH everyday so spent a lot of time with her, although as time went by I went to the office more so she's used to being alone.
Now I'm working in the office and home 50/50, the days I'm at home she is a torture. She never likes down and sleeps, always hoking about, pawing at me, staring at me, it's driving me nuts!! She gets an hour off lead walk in the morning and again when I finish for the day at 4pm plus a bit of training with the ball, but I honestly believe she thinks that my only purpose in life should be to walk her. She has loads of enrichment toys, snuffle mat, puzzles, chews etc but she just walks around aimlessly like a caged animal, she doesn't want to go outside either.

So tell me, what does your dog do while your WFH? What am I doing wrong??

She's the best dog in other ways, so friendly and well trained, great recall etc

Lazy sighthound here. Gets up when I do, 45 ish minute walk at 10ish (depending on what meetings I have that day!) Then breakfast and then sleep til lunchtime, lunch then sleep, until wee time, quick wee then more sleep til dinner at 8. Then sleep until bedtime walk at 10, teeth clean, bedtime snack then sleep and repeat:)

Sleep is only interrupted anytime the fridge is opened when he has to come and investigate in case he's missing out.

It's funny because my mum grew up with spaniels and she's always saying 'is he going back to bed, doesn't he do anything else?'. Well no, not really😁

2.5 year old Cockerpoo here. He's different around dh and I, dh is the fun one and the one who walks him and he rarely leaves dh alone! I'm the one who feeds and trains him and with him all day as I work from home and he's an angel! He sleeps, watches me work or do chores, I play with him of course but he has an off switch with me that he doesn't seem to have with dh.

Exactly this. I wfh and she just sleeps. With dh she does sleep but there’s more pestering. My in laws have he4 when we are in the office and usually take her for a beach walk on days we are a5 home too.

we do the odd snuffle mat and hiding type brain games with her too….

I've a 5 year old cockapoo. I work at home 3 days a week then he goes to doggy day care the other day. He's at home one day for 4 hours (the day after daycare so he's shattered!).

On the days I'm at home working he lies next to me. Follows me when I get up but settles back quickly. He generally has one long walk a day in the afternoon.

Cockerpoo here about the same age, she has s big daily walk and a romp in the garden a few times a day she is fairly chilled but she needs to sleep and I take a treat to her bed and she sleeps.

I find a deer antler is the best thing to calm her down, 5 minutes of chewing and she dozes off

My cocker spaniel snoozes, looks out of the window at people passing by, and empties the bin. He also goes into the children's bedrooms and collects soft toys, moving them all to his bed.

But mostly he snoozes!

Appin · 10/02/2023 22:15

And the occasional days when I work from home, he snoozes next to me and leaves the bin well alone!

2 Yr old lurcher. Sleeps in till 8am. Wakes up and treats us to an aria. Cries if anyone puts light on and in summer hides under blanket from sunrises. Short walk 20 mins, unless it's raining/ cold then he doesn't want to go and grumbles when made to. then back for a good snooze till dc get home. He likes to be cuddled whilst snoozing.

He snoozes in the armchair in the office during the day He expects the door to be open by 9.00am and cries outside the door. Never at weekends though.

Likes a run most days, about 20 mins. Sleeps from 7pm onwards, upside down. Likes to go to bed early, and makes sure we are in no doubt this is bedtime and one day we will go to bed at 8pm.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 10/02/2023 22:36

Mine just sleeps!

I would introduce scent training, 10 minute bursts of that 2-3 times a day will tire her brain. Aside from that you need to teach her to go to her bed and rest.

WaddleAway · 10/02/2023 22:37

Mine just sleeps. Snuffles around a bit occasionally, goes out for the odd wee, otherwise just sleeps!

Chipshopflipshop · 11/02/2023 13:20

Jealous of all the snoozers lol!!
Will look at training her to rest, might be the answer!!! She just always seems bored or is looking for something to do aimlessly!!

DDog-sleeps, ALL DAY! Gets up to move from one sofa to another then goes back to sleep.

when we come home she moves onto our laps for a bit more sleep!

Dpup is only 13 weeks old…I have my fingers crossed for another snoozer 😂

RedBonnet · 11/02/2023 15:09

9mo springer with implant, morning toilet walk, usually 15mins round the block, then he eats or chews his antler etc but as soon as get my laptop out he settles down to sleep.

I start work at 7am and by 11am he's ready for a 20min walk to the field.

Afternoon he's less easy to settle but he's just able to cope if we do a couple of play sessions in my breaks.

He has learned that laptop means no attention. If he gets really bored and starts stealing things he goes in his crate with a chew to settle.

He's pretty good for a teenage springer tbf.

We always do a good enriching walk after work.

One thing that really helped was taking his toys away so he knows playtime is a set event and not an all day thing.
