humping dog

Hello,

we have a 3 year old golden retriever who is really bad with humping us especially my partner and he becomes very frustrated when we try and get him to get off.
I have an appointment at the vets for his jabs tomorrow and we are going to discuss getting him neutered but i'm just wondering has anyone had any experience with a humpy dog and has it helped when getting them neutered. Hes usually well behaved other than barking.
He did get attacked the year before last whilst at training class so he is still anxious when certain dogs bound up to him (especially rottweilers)

We have an 8 month old and i'm getting worried for when he starts to move around :(

Any advice welcome, thank you 😊

Humping is generally not a sexual behaviour so neutering isn’t a cure.

Dogs will hump through boredom, frustration, excitement……… it’s a lifestyle/training issue, not a sex related thing.

Humping is not sexual so neutering will make no difference (although many people will swear having their dog castrated stopped them doing it)

Humping is usually when a dog is over threshold , so too excited, too tired, to stressed etc. It is like all the emotions boil over and make them hump.

Bitches hump too.

Look at when your dog humps and see if you can alter things a bit. So if he humps when you are coming home and he is greeting you reward a sit, if he is humping you as the house has got high energy pop the dog into a quiet room with a chew toy etc.
