Flexi longline recommendations

My dog (9 months) is yet to have 100% recall. Empty field - he'll come back every time. Another dog - well, why wouldn't that dog want to have him bound over in to it's personal space?!

I have a long line lead for field walks, but it's not retractable and so just drags along in mud and whatever else is on the floor.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent retractable long line?

He's currently 25 kg

This will only be used in fields, not busy parks etc

Retractable leads have there own issues. They can be pretty dangerous with burning peoples skin and are unreliable and can break unexpectedly. If you google retractable leads injuries.

Retractable leads will bugger up or hinder any loose lead walking you may be training. The retractable lead will have constant pressure on the dog so they get used to creating pressure on the lead which is incompatible with loose lead walking.

Long lines are better and safer maybe look at biothane long lines. They are dont get heavy when wet and are really easy to wipe clean

I have a similar weight dog with the same issue. I have 15m biothane long line which wipes clean and is very light. About £20 on Amazon.

Don't get a flexi lead
As ShouldIknowthisalready explained, the cons outweigh the pros on everything!

We use flexi leads for the same purpose- when we’re walking to the field from our house about 200m away. My dog is fine on a normal lead when we’re walking elsewhere but hates the weight of it when we’re on the field so it’s a good option for us.

It’s tedious when you post your purpose for using a tool and all you get back is information on how they’re dangerous in situations you won’t be using them in.

I think if you look at the flexi leads by weight and make sure to get a tape one and not a cord you should be good. Also take a spare lead with you just in case you do have a breakage.

Don't get a flexi lead OP. Stick to a long line.

Biothene long line on Amazon
Baby wipes in the car to clean once your back and wear gloves to keep your hands clean
game changer and extendable leads are a faff

Just get a biothane long line one. Retractable leads are more trouble than they're worth.

I had the flexi brand tape for up to 50kg. It lasted 10 years before breaking. Very robust, comfortable to hold and reliable to use. No issues at all with it. Ours was only 3m which is plenty to allow a sniff about, for more freedom he was trained to ge off lead by 4months (somewhere dog appropriate)
