Lumps

My 7 year old cocker developed a lump on his back about a year ago, I asked the vet to look at it and he said it was probably just a fatty lump due to age, it doesn't hurt him and you can move it under his fur and he doesn't react, the vet did say if it grew or was causing discomfort to bring him back.

I can't say for sure but I do think it's slightly bigger and now another one has appeared on the other side of his back. Again it doesn't bother him.

Is this just normal as dogs get older, I'm scared to take him back in case they say cancer or something. I know that sounds ridiculous but just wondered if anyone else's dog has developed these?

Dogs do develop fatty lumps as they age but 7 is not really an old dog.

You do need to go to the vet. It is most likely nothing but it would help to make your dog more comfortable.

I have had some fatty lumps removed from my dogs depending on where it is and if it hinders the dogs mobility or comfort - some I have left. Let your vet advise you.

My 7-year-old lab vizsla cross just had a lipoma (fatty lump) removed from his thigh today (he's feeling very sorry for himself at present). He's had it for around 2 months and it was growing a lot these past couple of weeks. No pain, no limp, didn't seem to bother him in the least.

It seems to be a midlife thing for dogs! It's far more likely to be a lipoma than anything more sinister, particularly since it's been there a year and your dog seems to be fine with it. I'd get it removed though because they can grow into the muscle- but for your own reassurance, above all, I'd get it/them zapped.
