GPS tracker

Hi,

Probably sound a bit paranoid, but we're about to start using a dog walker and I was wondering about getting a GPS tracker for our dog? She has great recall for us, but I worry that she can get anxious and what's the risk that she may panic if off lead with the walker?

I have discussed keeping her on lead until the walker sees what she worries about (kites?!), but we'd love her to be able to walk her in a group and that will involve off lead at some point.

GPS tracker a good idea or not?

If good, any recommendations?

Thanks!

I got my dog one at christmas but out dog walker wouldn't let him wear it, as we would be able to track where the other dogs live. So maybe check first

Oh that's a good point, hadn't thought of that! Blush

My dog Walker won't allow the tracker either

Maybe I just need to lighten up. Honestly she took her out earlier and I felt more worried than I do when one of the children is out GrinBlush

Our Lab has a GPS tracker on all the time, including during his three-hour pack walks. Walker was happy to have it on him and I love seeing where he’s been ( these are romps on her farm and sessions not pavement pounding). He’s a terrible flight risk and we wouldn’t let him out without his tracker as he’s been missing twice, and also took himself for a walk when DS left the gate open (despite excellent recall 99/100 and being fine at gundog training sessions). I’m pretty sure he’s unlikely to go missing with his walker, but I wouldn’t risk it. He’s mostly on a longline with us, trains in our enclosed field, with the odd off lead walk if we feel brave.

We use PawFit with the App on
3 phones as we are rural with poor reception. He’s been found once using the PawFit and the alternative would have been hours of searching, Facebook posts, posters etc., and possibly a dog lost, stolen or hit by a vehicle. We found him on the trampoline in the garden of a local farm!
