What are labradoodles genuinely like? I can see lots online but just want a real life answer!

We have a 9 month old baby and two cats. Looking to get a dog now. We have large garden and can easily give 1hr exercise 4 days a week round work patterns and longer onn3 days a week.

Also considering labradors, golden retriever

Oh and just to mention, there’s zero guarantee what kind of coat a poodle cross will have. Our labradoodle needed frequent grooming, baths and she still shed, endlessly, everywhere my clothes were always covered in fur.

A poodle doesn’t shed and they don’t smell doggy.

I have heard great things about Cavapoos - a lot calmer than either Labradoodles or Cockapoos.

But, as PPs have said, PLEASE just wait until your DC is older!!

The cavapoo I know is very dull - I'd just get a house rabbit instead.

Just get a poodle, best dogs in the world!

We have a labradoodle - her mum was a labradoodle and the dad was a mini poodle.

Positives: so easy to train. Toilet training was bomb proof by 12 weeks. Has responded really well to trick training - paw, spin, bop, lie down etc. Needed it for mental stimulation. Recall v good. Very affectionate (a bit of a velcro dog). We did training to be left alone early and by 5m could consistently be left for a couple of hours each day. Loves other dogs and is very dog friendly.

Other things to mention: I think she's quite highly strung. It takes a while for her to settle down and turn off. Needs a lot of exercise. We can tell the days she's only had one 'runny' walk as opposed to two. She has boundless energy for chasing/fetching/running about daft.

Whatttt Smile Labradors smell is up there next to fresh coffee, freshly cut grass and home made bread.

They always smell divine.

Many labradoodles are bonkers it is the luck of the draw which one you get. However you are more likely to get a nutter labadoodle than you are a pure lab.

My lab also smells amazing! One of my favourite smells.

We lost our beautiful 13.5 yr old labradoodle last October, she was the best dog ever, high energy, bouncy, happy and very easy to train. She loved walks, runs and anything inbetween and she had the loveliest of nature.

Would I get another one, not from a puppy as I there are so few reputable breeders, mainly puppy farms or puppy factories where they neuter the pups at about 8 weeks. Go onto many of the rescue sites and so many of the beautiful dogs, labs and poodles have been used for breeding and thrown away, many have never even lived in a home, its absolutely heartbreaking.

If you want a poodle cross of any kind please rescue, dont perpetuate this horrible trade in cute cross dogs, if we didnt buy them the market wouldnt be there and the bastards who use these beautiful animals to make them a fortune and then discard would no longer be in business.
