Collagen treats

A friend (who doesn't have dogs) popped in earlier with some treats for dc, and had also brought the dog a "collagen treat".
I've not come across them before and the internet brings up rawhide - the companies advertising them as a safe alternative to rawhide, and some people saying they're essentially still rawhide.

Just wondered if anyone here has any knowledge of them? Don't know whether to stick it in the bin or if it's perfectly fine.

No idea on that one sorry but I've been seeing them too so I'm interested in the replies not that I spend way too much time looking at treats for DDog.

Generally collagen chews are ok for dogs (but check packaging etc)

They are made from the skin of an animal as rawhide BUT the big difference is how they are processed. Rawhide is processed with yucky chemicals and have contaimination issues. Rawhide is made from the epidermis of the skin which has no nutritional value and is impossible to digest.

Collagen treats are made from the corium of the skin which is easy to digest and contains collagen. Collagen is converted into useful nutrients for the dog - pepto acids which are good for the dog

My dog gets collagen treats. They're not the same as rawhide, but do read the packaging carefully as some companies can be quite misleading.

Collagen treats should be 100% collagen - no weird chemicals or additives.

Thanks all - looks like it's probably fine then!
