My beautiful 12 year old Jack Russell has begun to wee on the bathroom floor and I have no idea why . I have had we since she was a pup and she was incredibly easy to housetrain . About 8 weeks ago she has started to have little wees on the tiled bathroom floor . I work from
home , she has 3 walks a day and access to a huge garden . On a walk she will wee numerous times as usual , the shortly after we come in a wee will appear in the bathroom . I have cleaned the floor with an special cleaner from the pet shop and taken her for a full check up at the vets , thinking it may be age related . The vet said that she is very healthy and looking after herself exceptionally well for a dog her age . I try and keep the bathroom door shut but have a 7 year old son who often forgets . No changes in routine , food and she is chilled as usual. Any ideas why and how to stop
this please ?

This may be no help at all, but when our current cat gets a UTI (she seems to be prone to them) she will wee in the bath rather than go outside. I think she gets caught short or maybe feels too under the weather to go out. Another cat of ours from years ago started going in the bathroom when she hit her late teens. I felt like she made a conscious decision to go there as a more comfortable alternative to outside. Maybe that is true of your dog?

If it's "only" age related (rather than a UTI) then the only thing you can really do is manage her environment so she can't get to the bathroom.

I know that's easier said than done with a 7yo in the house - but maybe you could use a babygate or something to restrict her access to upstairs unless she's supervised?

Thank you ( name changed due to time of year !) . It may well be the comfort thing . She did not used to be phased by rain , snow or wind but now she tries to cut walks short by turning back towards home .

Thank you . Great minds think alike . I picked up a pet gate from Argos yesterday . Our house is open plan so now she can’t leave the lounge / dining area/ kitchen without us .
