Just seen on my local FB page someone asking for puppy pads as she picked up the family's new puppy last night and forgot to get any.

So, this poor puppy is going to find itself in a strange place, without its mum or siblings, on the most manic. busy day of the year when no one can give it the time and attention it needs.

And presumably the breeder doesn't give a fuck because they've allowed this to happen.

I really feel like messaging the poster to tell them what I think of them but obviously I won't. So I'm venting here instead!

Surely it can’t be legal to euthanise perfectly healthy pets???!? I feel like I should be writing to my MP to get this written into law if it’s not already! That’s a bloody disgrace!

The RSPCA euthanises dogs and cats ALL the time because they have more animals than can be found homes for. They kill some off to make way for animals coming in through the doors every day of the week.

We don't celebrate Christmas and I've been looking for a puppy/dog for a month after loosing my darling girl recently. Our other dog is lonely and so am I. I was shocked at the ads I've seen saying 'ready in time for Xmas' with the saddest looking pups. I would have happily taken on a pup this week but I'm also pleased to see other owners being cautious with their puppies saying no collection till after Xmas.

My DH was a vet and did not put healthy animals to sleep.

So glad to hear that xxx

I don't know if the pp meant the vet sprayed the dog with paint or that the owner had before they ended up in the rspca shelter, I've read spray paint is used for bait dogs in dog fighting circles so they can sort of keep track of them. I don't want ti get too graphic and it may not be what the pp was referring to.

Our friends got a puppy for Xmas day, it is just the 4 of them in a big house, no family over and they had 2 weeks of being able to settle pup in and train her etc. Personally I am surprised that any breeders would allow it as even most cat rescues wouldn't release a rescue cat or kitten around Xmas but it's not always going to be an awful experience for a pup.

Another week at the breeders shouldn't be an issue really. We waited till 9.5 weeks to get our 2nd dog, it worked out better timing wise for us and also its a large breed so vet said slightly longer with mum/litter mates is better in their opinion.

@Ekerty72 & @BoxerMam to stop people skinning them.

DH and I are considering getting a(nother) puppy, We're thinking next Christmas would be a good time - it's the quietest time of year for us, and it's the only time of year we both have a big chunk of annual leave off together, and we could work it to have over a month with neither of us working. This is exactly what we did with ddog1, she came two weeks before Christmas and her first walk was Christmas day, it was beautiful.

Try working at the vet in the run up to Christmas. The 'pre Christmas clear out' of euthanasing pets because the owners want them gone before the big day or before they go abroad for Xmas - whatever. It's a real and actual thing and it's heart breaking to deal with.

OMFG

💔 I would give anything for more time. Would love to work with animals but this us why I never will. Humans are twats. Utter, parasites.

I did my school work experience in a Vet surgery as I was keen to be work in a vets. Once a week they went to the rspca to put down unwanted dogs, that was upsetting enough but when I asked why they sprayed them with paint I just couldn’t handle it, I’m not an emotional person but I had to leave I got so upset.

I also hated them cutting the tails off puppies.

I knew after that I couldn’t ever work in a vets.

I don’t like all the jumping to conclusions with people who get pets for Christmas. As others have said not everyone has big crazy Christmas’s and if someone’s going to neglect a pet they will do it at what ever times of the year. We got a pup 5 months ago and every day has been crazy for her with 3 loud screaming kids, but she also came from a loud crazy home with multiple dogs and kids, so it was nothing new for her, she thrives from it and lines when the kids are at school.

vets do that? Then they wonder why they get bashed. I’m praying this isn’t true but betting it mostly is.
