Fat balls

I felt sorry for the birds in this freezing weather so made some food mix from oats and lard and put it on the garden table (so the dog couldn't eat it). He climbed up and scoffed it - probably 2-3 tblspns of lard and a cup of oats. Should I worry about pancreatitis? 😬 (he's approx 15kg scruff bag / mongrel - definitely a bit poodley)

I wouldn't worry as a one-off, though maybe be prepared for poo-splosion later Grin

SirSniffsAlot · 15/12/2022 14:45

I would imagine he'll fine (apart from a possible poo-splosion) but I'd take this as a 'warning' never to include anything dangerous in my homemade lard mix, such as raisins.

Mine ate one. He decorated my lounge with it 🤢

Thanks 🤞
Fortunately I was too mean to put my juicy deluxe raisins in the bird mix.

I disagree with the others and would give your vet a ring. Fatballs and dogs are not a great combination.

Pancreatitis is a concern

Mine found one dropped by a crow or a gull and later vomited it. The joy of dogs!

IME too much fat generally comes back up the way it went down.
