My poor pupper :( (photo warning)

I measured my dog and bought her a new lead/collar/harness set for her birthday.

Tried it on her and it looked good. Checked the tightness so it was comfortable.

Went for a short walk Thursday and a long walk Friday.

On the long walk she kept stopping and was walking much slower than usual.

I thought because it was colder.

I just lifted her up and got some dunk on my hand.

Her poor armpits. It's from the harness rubbing

I feel so bad :( my poor little sausage!

I've cleaned it. Do you think she will need a vet visit tomorrow?

It's either her harness or coat but I assume harness?!

Any recommendations for a good one to fit a pug?

It's even worse today!

Poor love, she must have been in pain :( I think it looks better today,
it looks like it’s drying up and healing.

gamerchick · 11/12/2022 12:17

Yeah that looks sore. Are you keeping it clean?

Tbh you're obviously distressed, if I'm not sure then I always take to the vet. Might need an antibiotic jab or something

JazzleRazzle · 11/12/2022 12:26

Ooh! Poor thing!! That does look sore!!

Firstly - I would keep a close eye on that - it is in a prime spot to get infected - no harnesses or anything on it until it is completely healed and possibly a vet visit tomorrow. I would probably bathe it in salt water, dry it out completely afterward and possibly sudacreme on it to take some of the soreness out, but be careful as it is in a really awkward place to heal up there as difficult to get air into it - so I would probably lean towards the vets for a check tomorrow - carry her there obviously - don’t put a harness or coat on to take her.

Harness wise - go somewhere (a pet shop - you may have to google to find one near to you that does it) that does a “Perfect-fit” harness - they measure the dog up and out the harness pieces together to get it to fit correctly. Superb for dogs that have less typical body shapes - Pugs/Dachsunds etc. Normal harnesses are not set up for Pugs etc and you cannot use a lead/collar on them due to airway issues. All ours have individual “Perfect Fit” ones and have been very happy with them. Have all been measured and fitted individually though as even two of the same breed and similar body mass still need a different fit.

FallingsHowIFeel · 11/12/2022 12:27

Poor baby.

But I think it looks like it’s drying up, so it may be healing. If she doesn’t seem in pain, I’d see how she goes. Obviously no harness til it’s all healed. If it get red around it or oozes now or if she is in pain, acting not herself in any way, then obviously take her to the vet.

Which harness was it? Which coat? My friend has recently got a rescue pug and one of my dogs looks like she has some pug in her and we both use the Julius K9 harnesses and a Danish Design 2 in 1 coat from Amazon. They seem a good fit, no rubbing at all.

JazzleRazzle · 11/12/2022 12:28

www.perfect-fit-dog-harness.com/perfect-fit-fleece-dog-harness.html

You can work it out yourself and order online but it is easier to go into a shop that carries the range with your dog and they measure up for you and give you the correct sections and put it together for you. They then let you try it on her and check for fit/comfort etc before you buy it.

Sprouttreesareamazing · 11/12/2022 12:29

Pets at home do a fab antiseptic lotion for a fiver. Works miracles ime!

JazzleRazzle · 11/12/2022 12:34

Thinking again - considering she is a Pug and where the sore is I would do a vet visit as I would rather get on top of it quickly and head off issues later than risk any infection setting in. Pugs are gorgeous but are probably not the hardiest of dogs to fight off and infection so I would rather veer on the overcautious side.

BringBackFoilWrappers · 11/12/2022 12:39

If you have to ask take her to the vets.
It sucks but for peace of mind probably better to get it treated with antiseptic etc.

Tinner01 · 11/12/2022 12:40

Op this once happened to my dog, she had got slightly overweight and it was in the summer/we were on holiday (so walking her a lot) her harness ended up rubbing quite a bit causing a very similar scab looking thing round her haunches.

it cleared up very quickly and she was absolutely fine, but I would keep an eye out in case it could get infected.

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 11/12/2022 12:43

This happened to my cat when he went to the cattery from his collar. We had to bathe it in salt water but the vet also gave him treatment too. I can’t remember if it was a steroid or antibiotic now as it was quite a long time ago, but it did need treating, if you are in doubt I would take the cat to the vet.

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 11/12/2022 12:44

*your dog I meant.

cheshirecatssmile · 11/12/2022 12:45

Wasn't a k9 harness by any chance. Did the same to my dog, rubbed under her front legs. I got a dirty dog harness which is better

Pittypatter · 11/12/2022 12:54

No not a K9.

I bought it off etsy. I messaged her and she's offered a 50% refund.

WIBU to ask for a full refund and I'll return it?

I'm obviously not going to use it again but will need to buy a different one. She only wore it twice

Going to do a salt water wash, dry and sudocrem and have another look in the morning.

I'll probably take her vets to be on the safe side. She is my baby :( Rather safe (and poor for a week) than sorry!!

I'd say no need for a vet visit unless it gets infected. It'll heal fine.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/12/2022 13:00

We had a nice soft fleecy harness from cosy dogs for our old boy, fortunately we were able to visit the shop in Lancaster but the lady was very attentive to the fit. (They're made above the shop)

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 11/12/2022 13:08

Ouch! It looks like it’s already starting to heal though. My top tip for sores is to bathe with a (cooled, boiled) tea bag.

They're lovely but it seems to be the back chest strap that's rubbed her and that the only bit on those that are webbing, not fleece

She's a put mix so a bit of a funny shape.

Her previous harness was just a amazon job, so I may just measure her and get that in the next size up as she never had any issues.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/12/2022 13:19

I guess you need a style which keeps the under-body strap well back from her armpits

Gunner1510 · 11/12/2022 13:32

Poor baby! ☹️ Keep it clean and make sure it’s completely dry.

I don’t have a pug but my dog has a broad chest, I use EzyDog harnesses, really good quality and each strap is adjustable with a slim chest plate. Highly recommend their products!

airwrapped · 11/12/2022 13:34

This happened to my dog with a Julius K9 harness - it'd been absolutely fine on her for a year and then just started rubbing (she must have put weight on!). As PP said, keep it clean and in the air and you shouldn't need a vets visit, my girl's scab cleared up within 48hrs

thelobsterquadrille · 11/12/2022 13:51

I don't think it's fair to ask for a full refund as she won't be able to re-sell it. The harness isn't faulty, it just doesn't fit your dog - that's not the sellers' fault.

I think offering you 50% is really generous TBH - I would take it and sell it on Marketplace or something.
