Dogs breath smells of fish

Exactly that . It stinks but hasn't ate fish.
She's been off her food for 3 days , stomach making a gurgling noise. Normal poo , she's drinking fine.
Internet says liver issues and take her for a blood test , but wanted to ask people here first as she's scared stiff of the vets and can't even get her into the building.
She's still active running about like a nutter and wants to play.
Doesn't pull back or anything when I feel her tummy.
Just worried

Has she been licking her bottom a lot? Anal glands in need of emptying can smell pretty fishy and they often lick or nibble their bottoms if they’re feeling uncomfortable.

That’s how I know our dog needs his anal glands emptying at the vets. Has she had loose stools?

LimitIsUp · 30/11/2022 11:37

My dogs breath smelt of fish when she had dental decay. Had some teeth extracted and the smell went

thelobsterquadrille · 30/11/2022 11:51

If she's not eating it's probably her teeth. Dental decay and gum disease can both smell horrendous.

She needs to see a vet ASAP.

Yes, as above, could be dental issues as well as lip fold infection. What type of breed? Is it truly their breath or could it be ears?

in any event, trip to vet is really necessary.

Anal glands are fine
Teeth checked when she had her mot and jabs 2 weeks ago.
Will give the vets a ring and see what they say

She's a Belgian mali x whippet with a splattering of greyhound and staffie (according to dna)

Hope it goes ok OP. Our dog used to have fishy breath when he needed worming, so possibly just that (though not usually off food with worms).

thelobsterquadrille · 30/11/2022 13:03

The fact that her teeth were fine two weeks ago is irrelevant really - tooth problems can develop very fast and they're very painful - and if there's an infection brewing then it will stink.

I hope the vet appointment goes okay! A couple of the breeds you mention she's mixed with are prone to dental issues too.

cheshirecatssmile · 30/11/2022 14:12

That was quick and expensive
Ear infection
She snorted at me and now dirty looks
Got some antibiotics
They did attempt to look in her mouth.
In the end I had to do it with the vet looking.
Teeth and gums from the glance look ok
