Walk in countryside - constantly wet feet

Have good quality walking boots but they let in the wet when it's very damp. Have tried dubbin and nikwax but doesn't work for longer than one walk. Can't wear wellies - need supportive footwear in which I can put arch supporting insoles for Morton's neuroma and plantar fasciitis. How the dickens do you keep your feet dry? What do you wear / do?

I've got Scarpas, they are brilliant. expensive compared to what I would usually buy but worth every penny as they are totally waterproof and really comfy. Def a good buy if you're a dog owner and have a dog who loves soggy walks.

Dubarry boots with an insole. Hard wearing and waterproof.

Same. Although I was just thinking mine could use replacing after 15 years of almost daily use😀

KnickerlessParsons · 01/12/2022 11:33

I'd suggest that your boots aren't as good a quality as you think they are! Unless the damp is getting in over the top in long grass. Have you tried gaiters?

Dubarry, I've had mine 12 years now and they just keep getting more comfortable

MissMarpleRocks · 04/12/2022 06:15

Another muckboots fan. I have insoles in mine.

I've got a pair of Meindls. They cost a small fortune but they are dry and warm with a good grip. I've wear them all day working my dog on a shoot (so thrashing through brambles and long grass and cover crops for a total of a about 3 hours, plus standing around in wet fields) and come home with toasty dry feet.

I wear a pair of normal socks and a pair of hand-knitted socks inside, and gaiters over the top.

They do need regular dubbin, to keep the leather happy.

I'm on my second pair of Meindls as I wore out the first pair as I walk a lot. They are the most waterproof walking trainers I have ever had. I never have wet feet now.

countrygirl99 · 04/12/2022 06:35

Is the wayerco.ung through the boots or in through the top in long grass - remembering a walk in New boots where the water couldn't get out!. If its the latter gaiters might help.

CampfireZen · 04/12/2022 07:23

Toggi Quebec country boots.

Have lasted me years and years. Warm, dry, no leakage even when in streams and puddles, drawstring tops, cushioned gel foam insole so really comfortable.

I can't add anything re:boots but I have just bought a boot warmer/drier thing from Amazon
The best £20 spend ever!
I put my wet walking boots on and they're dry within 15 mins or so, lovely and warm!

LimitIsUp · 04/12/2022 10:47

Have you got a link for the boot warmer @PopcornAndPeanutsAndChocolateAndTea - sounds good

Thanks everyone - for now I have purchased waterproof socks and the waterproof spray. Will see if that improves things and if not I will replace my boots based on your suggestions

When you put Nikwax etc on your boots, use your fingers and rub it in in small stickers. Rub it in much more thn you think necessary., the heat of your fingers really helps. Then leave your boots somewhere warm (but not in direct heat) and do another layer of wax. Repeat as yiu have patience for...

Riverlee · 04/12/2022 19:07

You need walking boots that are waterproof.: These have an inner sleeve that protects the foot. The cheaper walking boots aren’t waterproof. Look for something with fire-tex in it.

Riverlee · 04/12/2022 19:08

Gore-tex.

SoonToBeSwedeyMummy · 04/12/2022 19:09

Muck boots. Waterproof, warm and last for years.

LikeACrapCherTribute · 04/12/2022 19:13

I only ever buy these boots since I discovered them about 20 years ago, I've never worn them out - the mice ate the first pair when I left them in the garage and I lost the second pair on holiday - still on the third. My feet have never got wet in them. Not once.

I don't like walking in wellies and I need proper support for my Achilles - these boots provide that support.

Feet in big plastic bags before putting boots on!

muddlingthrou · 04/12/2022 20:14

I swear by fitflop wellies. I've got osteoarthritis in both feet and I can actually walk a long way in those.

liarliarshortsonfire · 04/12/2022 20:23

I wear country boots, go to an equestrian shop, mine are Dublin ones, really sturdy, warm and waterproof. I walk the dogs in them and walk around muddy fields with my dd and her horses. I've had mine for 3 years and they are still going strong.
