Dreaded fox poo - top tips for getting rid of the smell

Ddog came back from the dog walker this afternoon having had a splendid time but covered in fox poo 💩😬. She's been showered twice (much to her disgust) but is still reeking (much to my disgust).

Any top tips for getting rid of the stench? Does tomato ketchup really work??

Ketchup - squirt it straight on and rub it in. Leave it for 10 mins and then shampoo off

harriethoyle · 28/11/2022 17:00

Yes it really does. But don't leave it on too long or you'll have a pink pup!

Clymene · 28/11/2022 17:00

Yeah it really does work but it's a very unpleasant process! Buy cheap stuff

Also my little stinker loves rolling in it so much I always put him in a raincoat now as it’s so easy to just zip him in and out and chuck in for a quick rinse - he is very fluffy so it saves a lot of rinsing

I’ve found Dove bath crème works great! I had some from one of those crappy Christmas gift sets that I wasn’t going to use. Everything else had failed to get rid of the fox poo smell so thought I would give it a go and it works a treat

Passata works fine too and is cheaper than ketchup. I use that and a tiny amount of baby shampoo to get a lather.

pistachioicecream · 28/11/2022 21:32

Went for the tomato ketchup option as we had some of that. Left it on for about 5 minutes then rubbed in a little bit of tresame shampoo so it lathered up. Her neck is now slightly pink but definitely less stinky so a definite improvement!

thanks all.

Yes it does work

A quick shave and a coat of varnish generally does the trick!

Hesleepswiththefishes · 28/11/2022 21:40

Have a spanners

have a 5 litre tub of fox poo shampoo for random rolls, it works

brand is anamology or similar spelling!

probably needs something acidic to break down proteins

tinymeteor · 28/11/2022 21:41

Fox poo shampoo! Ketchup is rank, don’t go there

MandyMotherOfBrian · 28/11/2022 21:42

www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/fox-poo-dog-shampoo-250ml

This works

StillMedusa · 28/11/2022 23:20

I do a double shampoo-ing.
First round is fox poo shampoo... gets the worst off.
Then a second shampooing with a nice sensitive skin oatmeal doggy shampoo
Then I blow dry her with my dyson (bought for her as it's quiet...spoiled dog!)

Double coated dog here who just LOVES fox poo Envy

blobby10 · 30/11/2022 11:18

Always used whatever shampoo I had to hand on my yellow lab who LOVED fox poo. And Goose poo. And dead fish. The number of times she came back from a walk with her neck and shoulders covered I couldn't have afforded anything special to clean her with!

Another tip is don't forget the collar - there was always a little bit left behind either in the pin hole or buckle to remind me!!

I use Superdrug Tea tree foaming wash on anything offensive that my dog rolls in , works really well , I never had much luck with fox poo shampoo
