Trying to work with new puppy....

Just that really, trying to work with new puppy, had last week off settling her in etc. Now, she's in a sort of routine of play / sleep etc I still can't get anything done. I keep looking at her, giving into her whines. Totally my own fault obviously. I keep googling stuff about puppies and looking at car seats. Honestly, I never thought I'd be 'that' person, well I am. We're experienced dog owners, but she is our PFB puppy.

I'd say it'll be about another 6 weeks before you can get anything else done. No one tells you this...as no one would get a puppy. It's hard to leave them on their own much while house training.

Things that help, paying someone to come in and puppy sit while you do something else. I paid my stepson to sit on the sofa with the puppy, he's still her favourite person. They watched endless re runs of battleship gallatica.

Frozen damp tea towels/carrots/brocolli/chicken stock in a tub = to lick and chew. That also tires them out. If they are being super bitey or zooming - they are probably tired.

It gets better once they can go on walks outside.

They also need to learn, slowly, how to entertain themselves. Praising the calm, teaching 'bed' or 'place'. A bit of training also tires them out.

She learned today to climb onto the sofa in the kitchen, then fell asleep there earlier this morning.
I'm trying to get her to respond to her name, we're a long way from that though I think.

Get the easy peazy puppy squeezy book it’s super helpful
id Crate train or get a pen, it’ll help teach pup to settle so you can work
(obv in short bursts until they are older as you’ll need lots of toilet breaks)

We used a crate for a few months and now ddog sleeps in her bed next to my desk so I can work. It really helped us

Frazzled2207 · 29/11/2022 20:39

No idea but she’s gorgeous

With my last puppy, I did a teams meeting with my boss, in my pyjamas, rocking her to sleep on my shoulder. Breakfast hadn't happened, dinner had been tinned fruit out of the can, I hadn't washed in about three days.

I have no idea how something that sleeps 20 hours a day can entirely disrupt your life, but they do.

We're now 3 weeks in she's 90% house trained, but into everything and can go outside the garden this weekend which will be brilliant! Still not managing to get much work done, apart from when she sleeps but she's so wonderful! No idea how people manage with two!
